Exoplanet (album)
''Exoplanet'' is the debut studio album by American progressive metal band The Contortionist, released through Good Fight Entertainment on August 31, 2010. A remastered edition of the album was released on January 22, 2016. A live music video for the song "Primal Directive" was released on July 1, 2022. The video was filmed during the band's Reimagined Tour from 2018. The video was released to coincide with the band's 2022 tour where ''Exoplanet'' and ''Language'' were performed in their entirety. Concept Guitarist Robby Baca explained: The lyrics on the album focus on space, interstellar travel, and the journey to reach and colonize another habitable planet, hence the title of the album. The Contortionist
The Contortionist is an American progressive metal band from Indianapolis, Indiana. Formed in 2007, the band consists of guitarists Robby Baca and Cameron Maynard, drummer Joey Baca, vocalist Mike Lessard, bassist Jordan Eberhardt, and keyboardist Eric Guenther. They have released four studio albums and three EPs. The band signed with E1 and Good Fight Music in early 2010. History The Contortionist formed in 2007 under the name At the Hands of Machines with vocalist Jake Morris, guitarists Roby Baca and Cameron Maynard, bassist Christopher Tilley, and drummer Joey Baca. The band's first release, the EP ''Sporadic Movements'', was released later that year. Deathcore
Deathcore is an extreme metal subgenre that combines death metal with metalcore. The genre consists of death metal guitar riffs, blast beats, and metalcore breakdowns. While there are some precursors to the concept of death metal fused with metalcore/hardcore elements seen in the 1990s, deathcore itself emerged in the early 2000s and gained prominence beginning in the mid-2000s within the southwestern United States, especially Arizona and inland southern California (mostly the Coachella Valley), which are home to many notable bands and various festivals. Djent () is a subgenre of progressive metal characterised by its use of off-beat and complex rhythm patterns. Its distinctive sound is that of high-gain, distorted, palm-muted, down-tuned strings. The name "djent" is an onomatopoeia of this sound. Apparition (EP)
''Apparition'' is the second Extended play, EP by American progressive metal band, The Contortionist. It was self-released by the band on September 24, 2009. The release shows the band's first move towards a more progressive sound than their debut EP, ''Shapeshifter'' that showed a more traditional deathcore sound. It is also the band's only release with Dave Hoffman on vocals, with Jonathan Carpenter joining afterwards to fill in the spot. Not long after the release of this EP, the band was signed to Good Fight Entertainment, Good Fight and released their debut album, ''Exoplanet (album), Exoplanet'' in the following year.
