Evocation (band)
Evocation is a Swedish death metal band from Borås. History Foundation (1991–1992) Evocation was formed in the autumn of 1991 in Borås by bassist Thomas Josefsson, vocalist Jani Karvola, guitarist Marko Palmén, drummer Janne K. Bodén and guitarist Vesa Kenttäkumpu. A few months later, Evocation parted ways with vocalist Jani Karvola. Thomas Josefsson filled the empty spot as vocalist but ceased to continue playing bass. In 1992, two demos were recorded. The first was recorded at Sunlight Studio with producer Tomas Skogsberg. It resulted in a three track and intro demo limited to 500 copies entitled "The Ancient Gate". Later in an interview, Skogsberg named Evocation as "the best demo band he ever had recorded". Before the sound recording, Christian "Kricke" Saarinen filled the role as bassist. The second demo contained four tracks and was recorded in a local studio. The band then shifted to a new record label, Earache Records, soon becoming one of the best selling bands on that label. Their last label was Metal Blade Records. Carcass are an English extreme metal band from Liverpool, formed in 1985. Edge of Sanity was a Swedish death metal band that, alongside Opeth, is commonly regarded as being the first to fuse extreme metal styles like death and black metal with progressive rock. At the Gates is a Swedish death metal band from Gothenburg, formed in 1990. The band was a major progenitor of Gothenburg-style melodic death metal alongside In Flames and Dark Tranquillity.
