Harriet Richardson
Harriet Richardson Searle (May 9, 1874 – March 28, 1958) was an American carcinologist. She was known as the first lady of isopods and was one of the first female carcinologists, with only Mary Jane Rathbun before her. Biography Richardson was born on May 9, 1874, in Washington, D.C., to Charles and Charlotte Ann Richardson. She attended the Friends School and Mount Vernon Seminary in Washington before attending Vassar College - where she became interested in biology - from which she graduated in 1896 with an A.B., and again with a master's degree in zoology in 1901. In 1901 Richardson was appointed Collaborator in the Division of Marine Invertebrates at the National Museum of Natural History. She earned her PhD in the same field from Columbian University (now George Washington University) in 1903. Richardson began working with the Smithsonian in 1896. She worked at the museum unpaid by the Smithsonian for about twenty years. During this time she produced more output than ma ... Isopod
Isopoda is an Order (biology), order of crustaceans. Members of this group are called isopods and include both Aquatic animal, aquatic species and Terrestrial animal, terrestrial species such as woodlice. All have rigid, segmented exoskeletons, two pairs of Antenna (biology), antennae, seven pairs of jointed limbs on the Thorax#In_arthropods, thorax, and five pairs of branching appendages on the Abdomen#In other animals, abdomen that are used in Respiration (physiology), respiration. Females brood their young in a pouch under their thorax called the Brood pouch (Peracarida), marsupium. Isopods have various feeding methods: some eat dead or decaying plant and animal matter, others are Grazing (behaviour), grazers or filter feeders, a few are Predation, predators, and some are internal or external parasites, mostly of fish. Aquatic species mostly live on the seabed or the bottom of freshwater body of water, bodies of water, but some Taxon, taxa can swim for short distance. Terre ... Cymothoida
Cymothoida is a suborder of Isopoda, isopod crustaceans with a mostly Carnivore, carnivorous or Parasite, parasitic lifestyle. It contains more than 2,700 described species in four Taxonomic rank#Ranks in zoology, superfamilies. Members of the suborder are characterised by their specialised mouthparts which include a mandible with a tooth-like process which is adapted for cutting or slicing. Classification Cymothoida contains these superfamilies and families: *Superfamily Anthuroidea Leach, 1814 **Antheluridae Poore & Lew Ton, 1988 **Anthuridae Leach, 1814 **Expanathuridae Poore, 2001 **Hyssuridae Wägele, 1981 **Leptanthuridae Poore, 2001 **Paranthuridae Menzies & Glynn, 1968 *Superfamily Cymothooidea Leach, 1814 **Aegidae White, 1850 **Anuropidae Stebbing, 1893 **Barybrotidae Hansen, 1890 **Cirolanidae Dana, 1852 **Corallanidae Hansen, 1890 **Cymothoidae Leach, 1818 **Gnathiidae Leach, 1814 **Protognathiidae Wägele & Brandt, 1988 **Tridentellidae Bruce, 1984 *Infraorder Epica ...
