Even Better Than The Real Thing Vol. 3
''Even Better than the Real Thing Vol. 3'' is an Irish charity two-disc album featuring a variety of artists performing acoustic covers. Despite the title of the series being taken from a U2 song, the previous albums did not contain any U2 covers. This third, two-disc volume departs from this and is entirely composed of U2 songs, many of them by artists who recorded covers for volume one or volume two. It was released in 2005 by RMG Chart Entertainment Ltd., and like the other albums, most of the songs were recorded "live and acoustic" on ''The Ray D'Arcy Show'' on Today FM. Proceeds from the album were donated to the UNICEF Tsunami relief fund. Acoustic Music
Acoustic music is music that solely or primarily uses instruments that produce sound through acoustic means, as opposed to electric or electronic means. While all music was once acoustic, the retronym "acoustic music" appeared after the advent of electric instruments, such as the electric guitar, electric violin, electric organ and synthesizer. Acoustic string instrumentations had long been a subset of popular music, particularly in folk. It stood in contrast to various other types of music in various eras, including big band music in the pre-rock era, and electric music in the rock era. Declan O'Rourke
Declan O'Rourke (born April 26, 1976) is a singer-songwriter from Kinvara, Ireland. Career Early career to 2010 At the age of 13, when living in Australia with his family, O'Rourke was given his first guitar by a priest in Kyabram who recognised his potential and love for music, hence the title of his debut album ''Since Kyabram'', released in October 2004. The album's launch took place over three sold-out nights in Whelan's of Wexford St, Dublin and was broadcast live on national radio. The Divine Comedy (band)
The Divine Comedy are a pop band from Northern Ireland, formed in 1989 and fronted by Neil Hannon. Hannon has been the only constant member of the group, playing, in some instances, all of the non-orchestral instrumentation except drums. The band has released 12 studio albums. "October" is the seventh and title track from U2's 1981 album, ''October''. It was included as a hidden track on ''The Best of 1980–1990'' compilation. It is the only track from the ''October'' album included in the compilation. Mickey Joe Harte
Michael Joseph "Mickey Joe" Harte (born 21 August 1973), is an Irish singer-songwriter. He represented Ireland in the Eurovision Song Contest in 2003 with the song " We've Got the World". Early life Harte hails from Lifford, County Donegal. As a teenager during the 1980s Harte had an epiphany – "Because the moment I lifted a guitar and wrote my first song I knew I was creative", he has said. He started playing guitar at the age of 13. His first song, called "Candlelight", was inspired by Operation Desert Storm, the 1991 U.S invasion of Iraq. He later paid for the recording of his first extended play (EP). Running To Stand Still
"Running to Stand Still" is a song by rock band U2, and it is the fifth track from their 1987 album, ''The Joshua Tree''. A slow ballad based on piano and guitar, it describes a heroin-addicted couple living in Dublin's Ballymun flats; the towers have since become associated with the song. Though a lot of time was dedicated to the lyrics, the music was improvised with co- producer Daniel Lanois during a recording session for the album. The group explored American music for ''The Joshua Tree'', and as such, "Running to Stand Still" demonstrates folk rock and acoustic blues influences. Jack Lukeman (born Seán Loughman 11 February 1973), usually simply known as Jack L, is an Irish songwriter, musician, record producer, vocal artist and broadcaster. Early life Lukeman was born as Seán Loughman in St Vincent's Hospital, Athy; son of Seán Loughman, who was a mechanic, and his wife, Rose. Lukeman grew up in Bennetsbridge, near Athy, County Kildare. Erin McKeown (pronounced ) is an American multi-instrumentalist and folk-rock singer-songwriter. "So Cruel" is a song by rock band U2. It is the sixth track on their 1991 album ''Achtung Baby'', concluding side one of the album. The song was written at Elsinore in Dalkey. While audio engineer Flood changed reels to listen to a demo of another song, lead singer Bono began to improvise a song on guitar. Paddy Casey is an Irish singer-songwriter from Crumlin, Dublin. Biography He received his first guitar when he was 12 and left home soon after and began busking and gigging for about 12 years. At about the age of 24 he was approached by Sony A&R Scout Hugh Murray at the International Bar in Dublin, while performing at the singer/songwriter night hosted by Dave Murphy. Sony gave Casey some studio time in Sun Studios Dublin where he recorded 9 tracks in 2 days. Sony decided that they liked the tracks so much that they wanted to release them as they were.
