Euthynotus Incognitus
''Euthynotus'' is an extinct genus of prehistoric marine Actinopterygii, ray-finned fish that lived in Europe during the Early Jurassic epoch. It is generally considered the basalmost Pachycormiformes, pachycormiform. It contains only a single definitive species, ''E. incognitus'' (Henri Marie Ducrotay de Blainville, de Blainville, 1818) (=''Esox incognitus'' de Blainville, 1818), known from well-preserved specimens from the Toarcian-aged Posidonia Shale of Germany.Three other species also placed in this genus by Arthur Smith Woodward, Woodward (1901), include ''E. intermedius'' Louis Agassiz, Agassiz, 1844, ''E. speciosus'' Johann Andreas Wagner, Wagner, 1860 and ''E. milloti'' (Henri Émile Sauvage, Sauvage, 1891). The Toarcian is, in the International Commission on Stratigraphy, ICS' geologic timescale, an age (geology), age and stage (stratigraphy), stage in the Early Jurassic, Early or Lower Jurassic. It spans the time between 184.2 Megaannum, Ma (million years ago) and 174.7 ±0.8 Ma. It follows the Pliensbachian and is followed by the Aalenian. The Toarcian Age began with the Toarcian Oceanic Anoxic Event, a major anoxic event associated with marine extinctions and increased global temperatures that sets its fossil faunas apart from the previous Pliensbachian age. Johann Andreas Wagner
Johann Andreas Wagner (21 March 1797 – 17 December 1861) was a German palaeontologist, zoologist and archaeologist who wrote several important works on palaeontology. He was also a pioneer of biogeographical theory. Career Wagner was born in Nuremberg and received a PhD from the University of Erlangen in 1826 after spending some time in the University of Wurzburg (1814-16). He worked as a privatdozent at Erlangen after a tour that included a visit to Paris. In 1832 he became an adjunct to Gotthilf Heinrich von Schubert at the Munich zoological collection. In 1835 he was elected to the Bavarian Academy of Sciences and Humanities, Royal Bavarian Academy of Science. In 1845 he organized a survey of the distributions of 44 vertebrates (16 mammals, 27 birds, 1 reptile) across the districts of Bavaria under auspices of the Kingdom of Bavaria. ''Pseudoasthenocormus'' is an extinct genus of ray-finned fish belonging to the family Pachycormidae. It contains one species, ''P. retrodorsalis''. It lived during the upper Jurassic (Kimmeridgian–Tithonian, about 152–148 million years ago) and its fossil remains have been found in Germany.Eastman, C. R. (1914).
