European Route Of Brick Gothic
The European Route of Brick Gothic (EuRoB) is an association of cities, towns, regions, municipalities and institutions that have Brick Gothic buildings in their territory or have their headquarters in a Brick Gothic building. The network also includes several sponsors and cooperation partners. The route joins several hundred religious and secular buildings from Denmark, Germany and Poland, including monasteries, churches, town halls and town houses, as well as city fortifications such as city walls, towers and city gates. The purpose of the association is the promotion of art and culture, of science, education and international understanding, and in particular the preservation of our common cultural heritage of Brick Gothic and its promotion to a larger public. The ''Deutsche Stiftung Denkmalschutz'' ("German Foundation for Monument Protection") is a German private initiative founded in 1985 that works for the preservation of cultural heritage in Germany and to promote the idea of cultural heritage management. Background Since 1900, when Georg Dehio published his ''Handbook of German Art Heritage'', Germany has not had a central list of National Heritage Sites. Each of the sixteen states keeps its own set of lists and many towns and cities keep their own lists, all based on varying criteria for inclusion. Neubrandenburg
Neubrandenburg (, Low German ''Niegenbramborg'', both lit. ''New Brandenburg an der Havel, Brandenburg'') is a city in the southeast of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany. Marienkirche, Neubrandenburg
Marienkirche (St. Mary's Church), a hall church in the North German red brick Brick Gothic, Gothic style, completed in 1298, was the main church of the city of Neubrandenburg. It has been transformed into a concert hall, designed by Pekka Salminen, which opened in 2001. It then was rededicated as the Konzertkirche (Concert Church). It is widely known for its renowned Philharmony (''Neubrandenburger Philharmonie''). History The Marienkirche, which had been badly damaged in the 17th and 18th centuries, was repaired and rebuilt from 1832 to 1841. In the final days of World War II, it was again seriously damaged.
