Eucolaspis Antennata
''Eucolaspis'' is a genus of leaf beetles in the subfamily Eumolpinae. It is native to New Zealand, where it is a serious pest of apple trees and other fruit crops. The genus has also been reported from Fiji. Taxonomy The taxonomy of the genus is generally considered to be unresolved, as it is ambiguous how many species the genus contains. Fifteen species were described from New Zealand by Fabricius (1781), White (1846) and Broun (1880, 1893, 1909). In 1957, Shaw revised the genus, reducing the number of species in New Zealand to five (including two newly described species of his own). However, later entomologists ignored Shaw's synonymy. In the same year, two species of the genus were described from Fiji by Bryant and Gressitt. David Sharp (entomologist)
David Sharp (18 October 1840 – 27 August 1922) was an English physician and entomologist who worked mainly on Coleoptera. He was among the most prolific publishers in the history of entomology with more than 250 papers that included seven major revisions and reviews and a highly influential work on the structure and modifications of the male genital structures among the beetle families. He was the editor of the Zoological Record for three decades. Biography David Sharp was born at Towcester and lived his early years in Stony Stratford. Judson Linsley Gressitt
Judson Linsley Gressitt (16 June 1914 – 26 April 1982) was an American entomologist and naturalist who worked in Japan and China. He worked mainly on beetle diversity in Southeast Asia and in applied areas, particularly medical entomology, and was the founder of the journal '' Pacific Insects'' (which became the ''International Journal of Entomology'') and the Wau Ecology Institute in Papua New Guinea. Apart from insects, he collected specimens in numerous taxa and several have been named after him. Life Gressitt was born in Tokyo, Japan, where his parents were Baptist missionaries. The family became refugees after the earthquake of 1923 and they moved to Oakland, California in 1925 where he recovered from pneumonia and typhoid. Through his cousin E. The insects of the beetle family Chrysomelidae are commonly known as leaf beetles, and include over 37,000 (and probably at least 50,000) species in more than 2,500 genera, making up one of the largest and most commonly encountered of all beetle families.
