Ethical non-naturalism (or moral non-naturalism) is the meta-ethical view which claims that: # Ethical sentences express propositions. # Some such propositions are true. # Those propositions are made true by objective features of the world, independent of human opinion. # These moral features of the world are ''not'' reducible to any set of non-moral features. This makes ethical non-naturalism a non-definist form of moral realism, which is in turn a form of cognitivism. The Right And The Good
''The Right and the Good'' is a 1930 book by the Scottish philosopher David Ross. In it, Ross develops a deontological pluralism based on prima facie duties. Ross defends a realist position about morality and an intuitionist position about moral knowledge. ''The Right and the Good'' has been praised as one of the most important works of ethical theory in the twentieth century. Summary As the title suggests, ''The Right and the Good'' is about rightness, goodness and their relation to each other. Rightness is a property of acts while goodness concerns various kinds of things. Principia Ethica
''Principia Ethica'' is a book written in 1903 by British philosopher G. E. Moore. Moore questions a fundamental pillar of ethics, specifically what the definition of "good" is. He concludes that "good" is indefinable because any attempts to do so commit the naturalistic fallacy. Open-question Argument
The open-question argument is a philosophical argument put forward by British philosopher G. E. Moore i§13of ''Principia Ethica'' (1903), to refute the equating of the property of goodness with some non-moral property, X, whether natural (e.g. pleasure) or supernatural (e.g. God's command). That is, Moore's argument attempts to show that no moral property is identical to a natural property. Ethical Intuitionism
Ethical intuitionism (also called moral intuitionism) is a view or family of views in moral epistemology (and, on some definitions, metaphysics). Intuition is the ability to acquire knowledge without recourse to conscious reasoning or needing an explanation. An aptitude is a component of a competence to do a certain kind of work at a certain level. Outstanding aptitude can be considered "talent", or "skill". Aptitude is inborn potential to perform certain kinds of activities, whether physical or mental, and whether developed or undeveloped. Aptitude is often contrasted with skills and abilities, which are developed through learning.
