Estonian Basketball Player Of The Year
The Estonian Basketball Player of the Year is an annual award given to the best performing Estonian basketball player of the respective season. From 1995 to 2001 the award was decided by a poll of Estonian sports journalists and given by the magazine ''Sporditäht''. Until 1999, only players who played for a domestic club were eligible for the award. In 2001, players who represented the Estonian national team were added to the vote. Since 2004, the award has been presented by the Estonian Basketball Association. Basketball
Basketball is a team sport in which two teams, most commonly of five players each, opposing one another on a rectangular court, compete with the primary objective of shooting a basketball (approximately in diameter) through the defender's hoop (a basket in diameter mounted high to a backboard at each end of the court, while preventing the opposing team from shooting through their own hoop. Sport plays an important role in Estonian culture. Estonia first competed as a nation at the 1920 Summer Olympics, although the National Olympic Committee was established in 1923. Kristjan Kangur (born 23 October 1982) is an Estonian professional basketball player for Kalev/Cramo in the Latvian–Estonian Basketball League. He is 2.03 m (6 ft 8 in) tall, and he can play at both the small forward and power forward positions. Professional career 2000–2010 Kangur started his professional career in 2000, when he signed with Tallinn Kalev. He stayed with the team for the next three years winning the Estonian Championship titles in 2002 and 2003. He also won the Estonian Cup in 2001. Tanel Tein (born 10 January 1978) is an Estonian former professional basketball player. He was named Estonian Player of the Year in 2008. Tein played one season of college basketball for the St. Francis Terriers. Professional career Tein started his career playing for hometown team Tartu in 1993 and led them to two Estonian championships (2000, 2001) and three Estonian Cups (2000–2002). In July 2003, he signed with Śląsk Wrocław of the Polish Basketball League and the Euroleague, and won the Polish Cup in 2004.
