Esther And Abi Ofarim
Esther & Abi Ofarim were an Israeli musical duo active during the 1960s, consisting of husband and wife Abi Ofarim and Esther Ofarim. They enjoyed particular success in Germany. They had hits in Europe with their songs "One More Dance," "Morning of My Life," and "Cinderella Rockefella." Career Esther Zaied (b. June 13, 1941) met guitarist and dancer Abraham "Abi" Reichstadt (October 5, 1937 – May 4, 2018) in their native country, Israel, in 1958. Esther, who had been singing since she was a child, was a student in Abi's dance studio in Haifa. They married on December 11, 1958. After Esther served four months in the Israel Defense Forces, Israeli Army, they began singing at home for fun before pursuing a professional music career together. The Sopot International Song Festival or Sopot Festival (later called ''Sopot Music Festival Grand Prix'', ''Sopot Top of the Top Festival'' from 2012–13 and ''Polsat Sopot Festival'' in 2014) is an annual international song contest held in Sopot, Poland. The album was released as ''The New Esther & Abi Ofarim Album'' in the UK, ''Sing Hallelujah!'' in the Netherlands, and ''Das Neue Esther & Abi Ofarim Album'' in Germany. Recording and release The album was produced by Abi Ofarim and musical direction by Hans Hammerschmid. Esther & Abi Ofarim's cover of " Sing Hallelujah" by Mike Settle was released as a single in 1966, reaching No. 30 on the German singles chart. ''Esther Ofarim and Abraham'' is the American debut album by Israeli folk duo Esther & Abi Ofarim. It was released on Philips Records in 1963. The album was titled ''Songs Der Welt'' in Germany. Recording and release Singer Esther Ofarim and her husband Abi Ofarim relocated from Israel to Switzerland in 1963. Esther represented Switzerland in the 1963 Eurovision Song Contest, where she came in second place with the song " T'en va pas." The competition gave her considerable exposure and she signed to Philips Records. Roderick McEwen (12 March 1932 – 16 October 1982), known as Rory McEwen, was a Scottish artist and musician. Early life and education He was the fourth of seven children born to Sir John McEwen, 1st Baronet, and his wife, Brigid Mary Lindley. She was the daughter of Sir Francis Oswald Lindley and great-granddaughter of botanist and illustrator John Lindley, who in 1840 was instrumental in saving the Royal Botanic Gardens at Kew from destruction. McEwen was educated at the family home, Marchmont House in the Scottish Borders, by a French governess named Mademoiselle Philippe, and at Eton College, where he was taught by Wilfred Blunt, who described him as "perhaps the most gifted artist to pass through my hands".
