Esther Antin Untermeyer
Esther (or Ester) Antin Untermeyer (died January 1983) was the first woman to be a judge in Lucas County, Ohio in 1925 when she took the position of Toledo Municipal Court judge. Israeli Prime Minister Menachem Begin awarded Untermeyer the Jabotinsky Medal in 1980 for distinguished service to Israel and the Jewish people. Family life Esther Antin married poet Louis Untermeyer in 1933 after they meet in Toledo at a lecture. The couple resided at Stony Water, a working farm. Louis became unhappy with the marriage and obtained a Mexican divorce in 1948. Lucas County, Ohio
Lucas County is a county located in the northwestern part of the U.S. state of Ohio. It is bordered to the east by Lake Erie, and to the southeast by the Maumee River, which runs to the lake. As of the 2020 census, the population was 431,279. Its county seat is Toledo, located at the mouth of the Maumee River on the lake. The county was named for Robert Lucas, 12th governor of Ohio, in 1835 during his second term. Menachem Begin
Menachem Begin ( ''Menaḥem Begin'' (); pl, Menachem Begin (Polish documents, 1931–1937); ''Menakhem Volfovich Begin''; 16 August 1913 – 9 March 1992) was an Israeli politician, founder of Likud and the sixth Prime Minister of Israel. Before the creation of the state of Israel, he was the leader of the Zionist militant group Irgun, the Revisionist breakaway from the larger Jewish paramilitary organization Haganah. He proclaimed a revolt, on 1 February 1944, against the British mandatory government, which was initially opposed by the Jewish Agency. Later, the Irgun fought the Arabs during the 1947–48 Civil War in Mandatory Palestine. The Jabotinsky Medal may refer to one of several awards named in honor of Vladimir Ze’ev Jabotinsky: Jabotinsky Foundation awards The Jabotinsky Centennial Medal was awarded in 1980, the centenary of Jabotinsky's birth, by the Jabotinsky Foundation of New York to 100 Americans who had performed distinguished service to the state of Israel and the Jewish people. Louis Untermeyer
Louis Untermeyer (October 1, 1885 – December 18, 1977) was an American poet, anthologist, critic, and editor. He was appointed the fourteenth Consultant in Poetry to the Library of Congress in 1961. Life and career Untermeyer was born in New York City, the son of a German-Jewish jewelry manufacturer. He initially joined his father's firm as a designer, rising to the rank of vice president, before resigning from the firm in 1923 to devote himself to literary pursuits.
