Estadio Ciro López
Estadio Ciro López is a football stadium located in Popayán, Colombia. The stadium was opened on 8 July 1951 with a match between the Cauca Department football team and Millonarios F.C., Millonarios, who were at the time known as the ''Ballet Azul'' (Blue Ballet). It has a capacity of 5,000 spectators and served as home stadium for Independiente Popayán, Atlético Popayán, Dimerco Real Popayán, and Universitario Popayán, teams that competed in the Categoría Primera B. Since the second half of 2011 , it is the new home of the Centauros team of the Primera B, from Villavicencio, who was renamed Universitario de Popayán , after a series of agreements between the mayor of the city and the directives of the team, which represents the city in the promotion tournament in Colombia since the second half of 2011. Cauca Department (, ) is a department of Southwestern Colombia. Located in the southwestern part of the country, facing the Pacific Ocean to the west, the Valle del Cauca Department to the north, Tolima Department to the northeast, Huila Department to the east, and Nariño Department to the south. Universitario Popayán was a professional Colombian football team based in Popayán, that played in the Categoría Primera B from 2011 to 2019. They played their home games at the Ciro López stadium. History Universitario Popayán was founded in May 2011, after Centauros Villavicencio moved from Villavicencio to Popayán considering Centauros's huge debts, the refusal of financial support from successive local authorities that deemed it a feeder club for Deportes Quindío, and the support expressed from the Cauca Department Governorate for a football club in the department's capital city. The Ballet Azul (''Blue Ballet'') is a term coined in Colombia in the 1950s to describe the Club Deportivo Los Millonarios, Millonarios football team, during its successful period from 1949–1964, because the blue color of their uniform, the large number of titles the team won, and the quality of its game. Categoría Primera B, commonly referred to as Torneo BetPlay Dimayor due to Sponsor (commercial), sponsorship by online betting company BetPlay, is the second-division association football, football league in Colombia. The tournament was inaugurated on 29 January 1991. Format DIMAYOR has applied a new format from 2015 onwards because of the expansion to 20 teams in the Primera A tournament. The league will no longer have Apertura and Finalización seasons but rather a yearlong tournament with home and away games. The first phase of the tournament is everyone against everyone home and away games. The second is a two-groups phase with the 8 top teams from the season who play each other to determine the winners of each group.
