Esperance Railway Line
The Esperance railway line runs from Kalgoorlie to Esperance in Western Australia. It was lobbied for by Esperance residents to be linked into the Western Australian Government Railways railway network to provide land transport to their region. In the strictest terms it was an extension of the Eastern Goldfields Railway, but following the Standard Gauge project in the 1960s it has run from Kalgoorlie to Esperance since the mid-1970s, as Coolgardie is no longer connected by rail. Esperance () is a town in the Goldfields–Esperance region of Western Australia, on the Southern Ocean coastline approximately east-southeast of the state capital, Perth and south of Kalgoorlie. Red Lake, Western Australia
Red Lake is an abandoned town in the Shire of Esperance in the Goldfields-Esperance region of Western Australia. It is situated within the locality of Grass Patch, on the Coolgardie-Esperance Highway. The townsite is on the traditional land of the Kalaako people, who are also referred to as the Malba or Malpa, a name given to them by the Wudjari people to the south. Originally selected as a siding on the Norseman to Esperance railway in 1916, Red Lake was gazetted as a townsite in 1922. An official 1922 map of the townsite shows the town west of the telegraph line and consisted of the north-south running Stephenson and Duke Streets and the east-west running Taylor Street, with 32 blocks of land allocated along them. Western Australian Government Railways (WAGR) was the state owned operator of railways in the state of Western Australia between October 1890 and June 2003. Owned by the state government, it was renamed a number of times to reflect extra responsibility for tram and ferry operations that it assumed and later relinquished. Coolgardie, Western Australia
Coolgardie is a small town in Western Australia located around east of the state capital, Perth; and southwest of Kalgoorlie. It has a population of approximately 850 people. Although Coolgardie is now known to most Western Australians as a tourist town and a mining ghost town, it was once the third largest town in Western Australia (after Perth and Fremantle). Gibson is a town and locality of the Shire of Esperance in the Goldfields-Esperance region of Western Australia, about north of Esperance. The Coolgardie–Esperance Highway and Kalgoorlie to Esperance railway the run through the locality from north to south.
