Eskrima
Arnis, also known as kali or eskrima/escrima, is the national martial art of the Philippines. These three terms are, sometimes, interchangeable in referring to traditional martial arts of the Philippines ("Filipino Martial Arts", or FMA), which emphasize martial arts weapons, weapon-based fighting with stick fighting, sticks, knife fighting, knives, bladed weapons, and various improvised weapons, as well as "open hand" techniques without weapons. There were campaigns for arnis along with other Philippine martial arts to be nominated in the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage Lists; and as of 2018, UNESCO has inscribed nine martial-arts-related intangible heritages. Name Arnis comes from ''arnés'', the Old Spanish for "armour" (''harness'' is an archaic English term from same root). Danny Guba
Supreme Grand Master (SGM) Daniel "Danny" Guba (born August 11, 1952) is a Filipino martial artist and a leading practitioner of Eskrima-Kali-Arnis. Guba is a 5 time World Eskrima Kali Arnis Federation (WEKAF) World Champion and the founder of his own style of Doce Pares Eskrima, namely Guba Doce Pares. Career Guba began his training in Eskrima in 1964 in Cebu, Philippines. Guba learned from prominent practitioners of Eskrima. From 1964 to 1986, Guba trained under Magdalino Nolasco, Filimon Canete, Dionisio and Ciriaco Canete; from 1979 to 1988 under Bonifacio Uy; and from 1981 to 1988 under Vicente Carin. Dan Inosanto
Dan Inosanto (born July 24, 1936) is an American martial arts instructor and actor. Inosanto holds instructor or black belt level ranks in several martial arts. He has studied traditional Karate, Judo, Jujutsu, Kung Fu, Shooto, Muay Thai, Tai Chi, Kali, Silat, and Jeet Kune Do. He was one of three people who were appointed to teach at one of the three Jun Fan Gung Fu institutes under Bruce Lee, the other two being Taky Kimura and James Yimm Lee. After Bruce Lee's death, Inosanto became the principal spokesperson and historian for Jeet Kune Do. Inosanto is credited for training martial arts to a number of Hollywood actors including Bruce Lee, Chuck Norris and others. Riaz Amin
Riaz Amin (; born 27 February 1998) is a British Bangladeshi martial artist who practices Shotokan Karate and Filipino Martial Arts. He is the current World Eskrima Kali Arnis Federation (WEKAF) World Championships champion. Early life Amin was born in Tower Hamlets, London, England and is a third generation British Bangladeshi. He attended Coopers' Company and Coborn School. Stick Fighting
Stick-fighting, stickfighting, or stick fighting, is a variety of martial arts which use blunt, hand-held "sticks" for fighting, most typically a simple, non-lethal, wooden staff or baton. Schools of stick-fighting exist for a variety of weapons, including gun staffs, bō, jō, bastons, and arnis sticks, among others. Cane-fighting is the use of walking sticks as improvised weapons. Some techniques can also be used with a sturdy umbrella or even with a sword or dagger still in its scabbard. Juan Miguel "Migz" Fernandez Zubiri (; born April 13, 1969) is a Filipino politician serving as a Senator of the Philippines. Remy Presas
Remy Amador Presas (December 19, 1936 – August 28, 2001) was the founder of Modern Arnis, a popular Filipino martial art. Born in the Philippines, he moved to the United States in 1974, where he taught martial arts via seminars and camps. In 1982, he was inducted into the Black Belt Hall of Fame as Instructor of the Year. He published several books and videos on Modern Arnis and is recognised as the "Father of Modern Arnis". Ron Balicki
Ron Balicki (born September 2, 1963) is an American actor, martial artist and stuntman for various films and television series. He is also a well known martial arts practitioner, teacher, and author. He is a student of and son-in-law to Dan Inosanto. Biography Balicki grew up in Chicago, Illinois. In 1987, he became a deputy sheriff for Cook County, Illinois. He helped form a "special operations resistance team" that trained officers in riot control. Jeff Imada (born June 17, 1955) is an American martial artist, stuntman, and actor. He has performed stunts in over 100 films and television programs and authored one of the first books published in the US about the balisong. Jeff Imada is trained in Jeet Kune Do, Eskrima, Tae Kwon Do, Tang Soo Do, Karate, Shaolin Kung Fu, Kendo, Systema and Boxing.
