Eskimo (1930 Film)
''Eskimo'' is a Norwegian–Danish adventure and drama film from 1930 directed by George Schnéevoigt. It starred Mona Mårtenson, Paul Richter, and Henki Kolstad, for whom it was his film debut at age 14. Had it not been for the fact that Denmark was also involved in the production, ''Eskimo'' would have been considered the first feature-length Norwegian sound film (rather than ''Den store barnedåpen'' from 1931). The language in the film is Norwegian. Plot Jack Norton is a gambler, and his father often lends him money to pay off his gambling debts. Finally, his father's patience runs out. He refuses to lend him more money, and he no longer wants to acknowledge Jack as his son. In desperation, Jack takes a motorboat and sails to sea. His boat sinks, but he is picked up by a fishing vessel on its way to the Arctic Ocean. The captain is a brutal man, and both he and the crew treat Jack badly. George Schnéevoigt
George Schnéevoigt (born Fritz Ernst Georg Fischer; 23 December 1893 – 6 February 1961) was a Denmark, Danish film director, cinematographer, and actor of the 1910s to early 1940s. Schnéevoigt was born in Copenhagen, Denmark, on 23 December 1893 to the Finland, Finnish-born photographer and actress Siri Schnéevoigt, and Hermann Friedrich Fischer. He was the father of photographer Alf Schnéevoigt. Early life When Schnéevoigt was 14 years old he traveled with his mother to Berlin as a result of his parents divorce, there he took his mothers last name. Already in his school years Schnéevoigt had developed an interest in acting. He trained as a photographer and studied with actress Tilla Durieux and actor Ludwig Hartau, Ludvig Hartau. The Danish Film Database (, formerly Danish National Filmography, Danish: ''Danmarks Nationalfilmografi''), is a database maintained by the Danish Film Institute (DFI) about Danish films since 1896 including silent films, short films, and documentary films. When it went online in November 2000, it included data on all 1,000 Danish films produced between 1968 and 2000, and 10,000 persons, which by 2014 had been expanded to 22,000 titles, 106,000 persons and 6,000 companies.
