Ernie Watts
Ernest James Watts (born October 23, 1945) is an American jazz and R&B saxophonist who plays soprano, alto, and tenor saxophone. He has worked with Charlie Haden's Quartet West and toured with the Rolling Stones. On Frank Zappa's album '' The Grand Wazoo'' he played the "Mystery Horn", a straight-necked C melody saxophone. Watts also played the notable saxophone riff on " The One You Love" from Glenn Frey's album, '' No Fun Aloud''. Biography Watts was born in Norfolk, Virginia, and began playing saxophone at 13. After a brief period at West Chester University, he attended the Berklee College of Music on a '' Down Beat'' magazine scholarship. He toured with Buddy Rich in the late 1960s, occupying one of the alto saxophone chairs, and visited Africa on a U.S. State Department tour with Oliver Nelson's group. Glenn Frey
Glenn Lewis Frey (; November 6, 1948 – January 18, 2016) was an American musician. He was a founding member of the rock band Eagles, for whom he was the co-lead singer and frontman, roles he came to share with fellow member Don Henley, with whom he wrote most of Eagles' material. Frey played guitar and keyboards as well as singing lead vocals on songs such as " Take It Easy", " Peaceful Easy Feeling", " Tequila Sunrise", " Already Gone", " James Dean", " Lyin' Eyes", " New Kid in Town", and " Heartache Tonight". The One You Love (Glenn Frey Song)
"The One You Love" is a song by American musician and singer-songwriter Glenn Frey, most famous as singer and guitarist for the Eagles. It was released as the lead single from his debut solo album '' No Fun Aloud'', in 1982. Ernie Watts and Jim Horn are featured on the tenor saxophone. Watts plays the repeating theme, while Horn plays the closing solo. The single features the track, "All Those Lies", as the B-side, which is also included in the album. The song was also one of three of Frey's solo hits performed during the Eagles' 1994–1996 Hell Freezes Over tour, the others being "You Belong to the City" and " The Heat is On", wherein bassist Timothy B. C Melody Saxophone
The C melody saxophone, also known as the C tenor saxophone, is a saxophone pitched in the key of C one whole tone above the common B-flat tenor saxophone. The C melody was part of the series of saxophones pitched in C and F intended by the instrument's inventor, Adolphe Sax, for orchestral use. The instrument enjoyed popularity in the early 1900s, perhaps most prominently used by Rudy Wiedoeft and Frankie Trumbauer, but is now uncommon. A C melody saxophone is larger than an alto and smaller than a tenor. The bore on most models has a diameter and taper more like a 'stretched' alto than a tenor. When seen in profile, its shape bears some resemblance to a tenor saxophone, though it is smaller and the bell appears longer. ''The Grand Wazoo'' is the eleventh album by The Mothers, sixteenth overall by Frank Zappa, released in November 1972. It was written and recorded during Zappa's period of convalescence after being assaulted in December 1971 in London, UK. Overview Along with its predecessor '' Waka/Jawaka'' (July 1972), this album represents Zappa's foray into big band music, the logical progression from '' Hot Rats'' (1969) (which used a much smaller lineup).
