Ernest Vincent Wright (1872October 7, 1939) was an American writer known for his book '' Gadsby'', a 50,000-word novel which (except for four unintentional instances) does not use the letter E. Biography The biographical details of his life are unclear. A 2002 article in the ''Village Voice'' by Ed Park said he might have been English by birth but was more probably American. The article said he might have served in the navy and that he has been incorrectly called a graduate of MIT. The article says that he attended a vocational high school attached to MIT in 1888 but there is no record that he graduated. Park said rumors that Wright died within hours of ''Gadsby'' being published are untrue. Ernest Wright (English Cricketer)
Ernest Vincent Wright MC (24 October 1894 – 16 December 1977) was an English cricketer. Wright was a right-handed batsman. He was born at Kettering, Northamptonshire. Wright served during World War I, by 1917 he was a temporary lieutenant, and in September of that year he was promoted to acting captain. By February 1918 he still held the simultaneous ranks of temporary lieutenant and acting captain in the Tank Corps. He was awarded the Military Cross, the citation for which appeared in ''The London Gazette'' in July 1918, and reads as follows: In February 1919, three months after the war was over, he relinquished his rank of temporary captain. Following the war, Wright made two first-class cricket appearances for Northamptonshire in 1919 against Warwickshire and Sussex, both at the County Ground, Northampton. Ernest Wright is a traditional scissors manufacturer in Sheffield, England. The firm was established in 1902 by Ernest Wright Sr., the son of a local scissors-borer. Scissors and shears made by Ernest Wright are marketed to artisans, hobbyists and collectors. The brand's range includes Turton kitchen scissors, stork-shaped embroidery scissors, and shears for tailors and dressmakers. The scissors are manufactured at a small workshop on Broad Lane, Sheffield. Five generations of the Wright family ran the business until 2018, when owner Nick Wright died in tragic circumstances. The company went into receivership, but was saved from closure when two businessmen and admirers of the firm, Paul Jacobs and Jan-Bart Fanoy, purchased the assets of the company and rehired several of its staff. Ernest Victor Wright (24 January 1909 – 4 March 1964) was an English-born footballer who played as an inside forward in the 1920s and 1930s, notably with Rotherham United and Liverpool. He was the son of William Wright and Patience Wootton of Bloxwich, and a first cousin to Aston Villa player Charlie Athersmith. Career Wright began his career with hometown club Bloxwich Strollers. In 1929, Wright signed for Bristol City. After a short spell at Bristol City, Wright signed for Rotherham United. In 1930, Wright joined Sheffield Wednesday, where he made two league appearances. A year later, Wright re-signed for Rotherham United, playing for the club for three years. On 14 March 1934, Wright signed for Liverpool. He made his debut against Birmingham on 17 March 1934. Ernest Henry Wright (November 6, 1939 – March 20, 2007) was an American professional football player who was an offensive tackle for 13 seasons, from 1960 to 1969 in the American Football League (AFL), and from 1970 to 1972 in the National Football League (NFL). Early life Wright was born on November 6, 1939, in Toledo, Ohio and attended Scott High School. He played football for Ohio State University and started on the Buckeyes' offensive line in 1958 and 1959. Professional career Wright was an original member of the Los Angeles Chargers of the American Football League in 1960. He was drafted in the 15th round (200th overall) of the 1961 NFL Draft by the Los Angeles Rams, but he remained with the Chargers. Wright was a starter for the Chargers in their 51–10 victory over the Boston Patriots in the 1963 AFL Championship game. He was an AFL All-Star in 1961, 1963 and 1965.
