The Bundestag (, "Federal Diet (assembly), Diet") is the lower house of the Germany, German Federalism in Germany, federal parliament. It is the only constitutional body of the federation directly elected by the German people. Mecklenburgische Seenplatte I – Vorpommern-Greifswald II is an electoral constituency (German: ''Wahlkreis'') represented in the Bundestag. It elects one member via first-past-the-post voting. Philipp Amthor (born 10 November 1992) is a German politician of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) who has been a member of the Bundestag since the 2017 German federal election. In addition to his work in parliament, Amthor has been serving as a Parliamentary State Secretary at the Federal Ministry for Digital and State Modernisation in the government of Chancellor Friedrich Merz since 2025. From 2018 to 2020, he worked as a lobbyist for the now inactive IT company Augustus Intelligence. Education and early career Amthor was born in 1992 in Ueckermünde and grew up in Torgelow. Grevesmühlen () is a municipality in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, northern Germany. It was the seat of the Nordwestmecklenburg district until 2011, when Wismar became the seat. 2021 German Federal Election
The 2021 German federal election was held in Germany on 26 September 2021 to elect the members of the 20th Bundestag. State elections in Berlin and Mecklenburg-Vorpommern were also held. Incumbent chancellor Angela Merkel, first elected in 2005, chose not to run again, marking the first time that an incumbent Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany did not seek re-election. With 25.7% of total votes, the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD) recorded their best result since 2005, and emerged as the largest party for the first time since 2002. The ruling CDU/CSU, which had led a grand coalition with the SPD since 2013, recorded their worst ever result with 24.1%, a significant decline from 32.9% in 2017.
