Erik Hersholt Nielsen (February 24, 1924 – September 4, 2008) was a Canadian lawyer and politician. He served as the longtime Progressive Conservative Member of Parliament for Yukon, and was Leader of the Opposition and the third deputy prime minister of Canada. He was the elder brother of actor Leslie Nielsen. Early life, family, and education Nielsen was born in Regina, Saskatchewan, the eldest of three boys. His mother, Mabel Elizabeth (née Davies), was an immigrant from Wales, and his father, Ingvard Eversen Nielsen, was a Danish-born constable in the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. Nielsen's family lived mainly in Alberta during his formative years, and he graduated from high school in Edmonton in 1942. World War II Nielsen joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1942, just after graduation, and received his training mainly in Alberta. He flew 33 missions in No. 101 Squadron RAF in World War II, and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for "courage and devotio ... Erik Nielsen (Iowa, 1977) is an American conductor. Nielsen studied harp at Juilliard School, then conducting at Curtis Institute of Music, Philadelphia. He was Kapellmeister of Frankfurt Opera from 2008 to 2012, and was appointed chief conductor of the Bilbao Symphony Orchestra in 2015. Erik Nielsen (born 12 December 1937 in Copenhagen, Denmark) is a former Danish international football player, and father of the former international football player, now manager, Kent Nielsen. Erik Nielsen had his whole career in the football club Brønshøj Boldklub, for which he had 328 appearances (from 1956 to 1969). This was a club record set at a time when the Danish league was under a strict code of amateurism. He was capped once, in a match against East Germany in Leipzig in 1962. Additionally he had 3 appearances on the so-called "National team - B", and in his younger years 5 appearances on various youth national teams. Erik Charles Nielsen (born May 8, 1981) is an American actor and comedian. Early life Nielsen was born in West Sayville, New York. He is of Danish descent. Nielsen graduated from Palm Bay High School in 1999. While attending Boston University, he was named the funniest comedian on campus. After continuing to hone his act at The Comedy Studio in Cambridge, Massachusetts, he moved to Los Angeles, California to do a Ph.D. program at the University of California, Los Angeles, but withdrew before completion. Turning to comedy full-time, he got his first big break at the 2007 U.S. Comedy Arts Festival in Aspen, Colorado.
