Eric Turner (American Football)
Eric Ray Turner (September 20, 1968 – May 28, 2000) was an American professional football player who was a safety for the Cleveland Browns, Baltimore Ravens and Oakland Raiders in the National Football League (NFL). He played college football for the UCLA Bruins, earning All-American honors in 1990. Turner was selected by Cleveland with the second overall pick of the 1991 NFL draft, making him the highest drafted safety and highest drafted defensive back in modern NFL history. He died of stomach cancer at the age of 31. College career Turner attended Ventura High School and then played college football for the UCLA Bruins, where he was an All-American in 1990. Nicknamed "E-Rock" by his teammates, Turner drew comparisons to former Bruins great Don Rogers. Eric Clifton Turner (born February 7, 1963) is an American former professional basketball player. He played college basketball for the Michigan Wolverines. Career A playmaker out of the University of Michigan, Turner averaged 14.7 points, 2.5 rebounds and 5.0 assists in 85 games from 1981–82 through 1983–84 and was a three-year starter. He was chosen by the Detroit Pistons on the second round of the 1984 NBA draft as a junior eligible. Turner was a member of the USA team that won the bronze medal in the 1983 World University games in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Turner has never played in the NBA but played with the CBA's Detroit Spirits in 1984–85 and 1985–86 and unsuccessfully tried out with the Houston Rockets in the summer of 1985. In 1984–85, Turner was voted the CBA's Rookie of the year after ranking second in the league in assists and contributing 17.5 points per game in 47 outings. Eric Scott Turner (born February 26, 1972) is an American businessman, politician, and former professional American football, football player who is serving as the 19th United States Secretary of Housing and Urban Development, United States secretary of housing and urban development since 2025. He served as executive director of the White House Opportunity and Revitalization Council from 2019 to 2021. Previously, Turner served as Texas House of Representatives, state representative for Texas's Texas's 33rd House of Representatives district, 33rd House District, which includes part of Collin County and all of Rockwall County, from 2013 to 2017. Sir Eric Gardner Turner Order of the British Empire, CBE (26 February 1911 – 20 April 1983) was an English papyrologist and classics, classicist. Turner was born in Broomhill, Sheffield, South Yorkshire, Broomhill, Sheffield. He was educated at King Edward VII School (Sheffield), King Edward VII School and Magdalen College, Oxford, and taught classics at the University of Aberdeen from 1936 to 1948, although from 1941 to 1945 he served in the Naval Intelligence Division (United Kingdom), Naval Intelligence Division at Bletchley Park. In 1948 he became first Reader (academic rank), Reader in Papyrology at University College, London, and was promoted to professor in 1950. He retired in 1978.
