Rebirth Party (Northern Cyprus)
The Rebirth Party ( tr, Yeniden Doğuş Partisi, YDP) is a political party in Northern Cyprus. It was founded on 7 October 2016. Its leader is Erhan Arıklı, a professor, and its Secretary General is Turan Büyükyılmaz. Arıklı has stated that the ideological basis of the party is "allegiance to the motherland, Turkey" and "to ensure the survival of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus". However, the party strongly rejects the classification of Northern Cyprus as the "daughter country" of Turkey and states that it advocates an equal relationship between Turkey and Northern Cyprus as independent states. The party represents the continuation of the New Dawn Party ( tr, Yeni Doğuş Partisi), a historical political party that represented the interest of the Turkish settlers in Northern Cyprus. 2020 Northern Cypriot Presidential Election
Presidential elections were held in Northern Cyprus on 11 October 2020 alongside a 2020 Northern Cypriot constitutional referendum, constitutional referendum, with a run-off held on 18 October 2020. They were originally scheduled to take place on 26 April 2020, but were postponed in March 2020 for six months due to the COVID-19 pandemic in Northern Cyprus, COVID-19 pandemic. 2022 Northern Cypriot Parliamentary Election
Snap parliamentary elections were held in Northern Cyprus on 23 January 2022. Going into the election, the government was led by Prime Minister Faiz Sucuoğlu of the National Unity Party (UBP). The Sucuoğlu cabinet, was formed in November 2021 and was a minority coalition government of the National Unity Party (UBP) and the Democratic Party (DP). It functioned as a caretaker government until the snap election. The National Unity Party won 24 seats, gaining three compared to the previous elections in 2018. The main opposition party, the Republican Turkish Party won 18 seats, gaining six. Three other parties won seats; the Democratic Party and the People's Party both won three seats, while the Rebirth Party won two. The Communal Democracy Party lost all the seats it held.
