Equestrian Events At The 2012 Summer Paralympics
Equestrian events at the 2012 Summer Paralympics consisted of 11 dressage events. The competitions was held in the Greenwich Park from 30 August to 4 September. Classification Riders were given a classification depending on the type and extent of their disability. The classification system allowed riders to compete against others with a similar level of function. Equestrian classes were: *I, for riders with impaired limb function, or poor balance and good upper limb function *II, for riders with locomotion impairment *III, for blind riders with moderate locomotion impairment *IV, for riders with some visual impairment or impaired function in one or two limbs Events For each of the events below, medals were contested for one or more of the above classifications. After each classification are given the dates that the event was contested. Greenwich Park
Greenwich Park is a former hunting park in Greenwich and one of the largest single green spaces in south-east London. Deborah Criddle
Deborah Criddle MBE (born 10 May 1966) is a British para-equestrian who won three gold medals at the 2004 Summer Paralympics and three medals at the 2012 Summer Paralympics. Personal life Criddle was born on 10 May 1966 in Taunton, Somerset, England. She lost the use of her right arm and right leg following a motorcycle accident in 1985, eventually having the arm amputated in 2003. As a result, she competes in the grade III Paralympic classification. Equestrianism Criddle first competed at the Paralympics at the 2000 Games held in Sydney, where she finished eighth in the individual grade III event and fourth in the freestyle grade III. She won individual, freestyle and team gold medals at both the 2001 European Championships and the 2003 World Championships. Sophie Wells (born 5 May 1990) is an English para-equestrian who won three medals at the 2012 London Paralympics, three at the 2016 Rio Paralympics, two at the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics and two at the 2024 Paris Paralympics. Personal life Wells was born on 5 May 1990 in Lincoln, England. She was born with amniotic band syndrome and as a result she has no feeling or little movement in her feet and has lost numerous fingers. Because of her disability she competes in the Grade V Paralympic classification, the classification for riders with the lowest level of physical disability.
