Enrique El Cojo
Enrique Jiménez (or Giménez) Mendoza, known as Enrique "el Cojo" (the Cripple), (March 31, 1912 – March 29, 1988) was a flamenco dancer, choreographer, and teacher born in Cáceres, Extremadura, Spain. He grew up in Sevilla, in the region of Andalucía. Early life Enrique wanted to be a dancer from a young age, but at the age of eight, developed a tumor in his leg that left him crippled, with one leg shorter than the other. He worked in photography, before pursuing dancing. When it came to dancing, he was not able to do certain demanding moves, such as turns, due to his leg. Instead, he worked out ways to give the feel of a move, without the physical demands. Career Enrique el Cojo taught for many years in a small studio on the side street, Espiritu Santo. Cáceres, Spain
Cáceres ( , ) is a city of Spain located in the autonomous community of Extremadura. It is the capital and most populated municipality of the province of Cáceres. Cáceres lies at the feet of the Sierra de la Mosca, a modest hill range. Cristina Hoyos
Cristina Hoyos Panadero (born 13 June 1946) is a Spanish flamenco dancer, choreographer and actress, born in Seville, Spain. After a successful worldwide career, she opened her own dance company in 1988 that premiered at the Rex Theatre in Paris. She played an important role during the opening and closing ceremonies of the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona. Career Hoyos started dancing at the age of twelve in the children's show ''Galas Juveniles''. Her teachers, Adelita Domingo and Enrique el Cojo, ignited her passion for dance. In 1969, she joined the ballet company of Antonio Gades where she continued her work for more than two decades. During this time, she toured the world demonstrating her art and starred in the film trilogy '' Blood Wedding'', ''Carmen'', and '' El amor brujo''. ''Carmen'' () is an opera in four acts by the French composer Georges Bizet. The libretto was written by Henri Meilhac and Ludovic Halévy, based on the Carmen (novella), novella of the same title by Prosper Mérimée.
