Englewood Route 4 Station
Englewood Route 4 is a proposed station along NJ Transit's Northern Branch Corridor Project extension of Hudson-Bergen Light Rail in Englewood in lower reaches of the Northern Valley in Bergen County, New Jersey. The station site is along the CSX Transportation (CSXT) Northern Branch where it runs under New Jersey Route 4 at MP 8.8, east of Nordhoff Place and north of Sheffield Avenue. The station is designed to have an island platform, partially located under Route 4. It will include a parking deck for 945 vehicles incorporated into a storage and maintenance VBF (vehicle base facility). Vehicle access from Route 4 will be via Grand Avenue (concurrent County Route 501 and New Jersey Route 93). Approximately of property will be acquired to build the parking deck and VBF. Northern Branch (NJ Transit)
The Northern Branch Corridor Project is a proposed extension of the Hudson-Bergen Light Rail (HBLR) from its northern terminus into eastern Bergen County, New Jersey, Bergen County, New Jersey, initially proposed in 2001. If built, the new service would use the right-of-way (transportation), right-of-way of the Northern Branch on which the Erie Lackawanna Railroad ran passenger service until October 3, 1966, and is currently a lightly used, stub-ended freight rail line owned by CSX Transportation. The Northern Branch Corridor is at the foot of the west side of the Hudson Palisades in the Hackensack River valley, running for much of its length parallel to Overpeck Creek. The Erie Railroad was a railroad that operated in the Northeastern United States, originally connecting Pavonia Terminal in Jersey City, New Jersey, with Lake Erie at Dunkirk, New York. The railroad expanded west to Chicago following its 1865 merger with the former Atlantic and Great Western Railroad, also known as the New York, Pennsylvania and Ohio Railroad (NYPANO RR). The mainline route of the Erie Railroad proved influential in the development and economic growth of the Southern Tier of New York state, including the cities of Binghamton, Elmira, and Hornell. The Erie Railroad repair shops were located in Hornell and was Hornell's largest employer. The English Neighborhood was the colonial-era name for the towns in eastern Bergen County, New Jersey, along the Hudson Palisades between the Hudson River and the Hackensack River, particularly around its main tributary, Overpeck Creek. Englewood Hospital is an acute care 294-bed teaching hospital in Englewood, Bergen County, New Jersey, United States. In spring 2024, the medical center received an 'A' Hospital Safety Grade from The Leapfrog Group patient safety organization. History The hospital first opened in 1890. In 2006, much of the nursing staff went on strike after the union and hospital were unable to reach an agreement over a reduction in benefits and pensions. Temporary nurses were brought in. Englewood Station (Erie Railroad)
Englewood is a former railroad station at Depot Square in Englewood, New Jersey. Once served by the Erie Railroad's Northern Branch, the building is located in the city's town center along the ROW now used as a branch line by CSX Transportation. The station at Depot Plaza (as it was originally known) was one of the original stations upon opening of the Northern Railroad of New Jersey, which included two others in the town, Van Brunts (later Nordhoff) and Highwood (later Hudson Avenue). The building has undergone various incarnations as restaurants, a recording studio, and a performing arts school.
