Les Cowboys Fringants () are a Quebecker folk rock band formed in 1995 in Repentigny, Quebec. The French word ''fringant'' can be translated as "dashing", or "frisky". They perform '' Quebecker'' néo-trad music (modernized Quebec folk music with a rock flavour) and draw on country music. They have an international underground following, especially in France, French-speaking Belgium and Switzerland. Band members hail from the Montreal suburbs of Repentigny and L'Assomption. The entire band collaborates on the lyrics, although guitarist Jean-François Pauzé often contributes more than the others. Néo-trad is a musical style from Quebec that arose around the turn of the 21st century. It can be considered a subgenre of Québécois folk music. The term combines the Greek prefix ''neo'', meaning ''new'', and the contraction of the word ''traditionnelle'', as in ''traditional music''. History It basically constitutes modernized Quebec folklore music, usually mixed with rock and/or electronica. Some notable néo-trad artists are Mes Aïeux, and Les Cowboys Fringants. Okoumé can also be considered a néo-trad precursor. ''L'expédition'' ( French for 'the expedition') is an album by Les Cowboys Fringants. It was released in 2008 and reached the number one spot on the Quebec music charts. Background ''L'expédition'' is the sixth album of Les Cowboys Fringants, and the first where the group only has four members, after the departure of Dominique Lebeau. The album was released on September 23, 2008, and includes 14 tracks. All the tracks share the motif of the passing of time, with the album title itself symbolizing the journey of life. Compared to previous albums, the album is seen as more calm and melancholic. Three singles from the album occupied first place on their release in the top 100 of Quebec radios: "Entre deux taxis" (for 9 weeks), "Tant qu'on aura de l'amour" (for 5 weeks), and "La Tête haute" (for 5 weeks).
