Emre Aracı
Emre Aracı (born 22 December 1968) is a Turkish music historian, conductor, and composer. Life Aracı is a Turkish music historian, composer and conductor who has been living in the United Kingdom since 1987. He has made original contributions to the scholarship of Turkish music through his pioneering research focusing primarily on the European musical practice in the Ottoman court. Aracı studied music at the University of Edinburgh, graduating in 1994 with a BMus (Hons.) degree which was followed by a PhD in 1999. Supported by Lady Lucinda Mackay and the Inchcape Foundation, the subject of his thesis was the life and works of Turkey's eminent 20th-century composer Ahmed Adnan Saygun (1907–1991). During his years at Edinburgh, Aracı played an active role in the musical life of the university and founded the Edinburgh University String Orchestra, which still continues to give regular concerts and is run by student volunteers. Ankara ( , ; ), historically known as Ancyra and Angora, is the capital of Turkey. Angelo Mariani (conductor)
Angelo Maurizio Gaspare Mariani (11 October 182113 June 1873) was an Italian opera conductor and composer. His work as a conductor drew praise from Giuseppe Verdi, Giacomo Meyerbeer, Gioachino Rossini and Richard Wagner, and he was a longtime personal friend of Verdi's, although they had a falling out towards the end of Mariani's life. He conducted at least two world premieres (Verdi's '' Aroldo'' and Faccio's '' Amleto''); and at least 4 Italian premieres (Meyerbeer's '' L'Africana'', Verdi's '' Don Carlo'', and ''Lohengrin'' and ''Tannhäuser'' by Wagner). Presidential Symphony Orchestra
The Presidential Symphony Orchestra ( tr, Cumhurbaşkanlığı Senfoni Orkestrası), with headquarters in Ankara, is the presidential symphony orchestra of the Republic of Turkey. Its history dates back as far as 1826, making it one of the first symphony orchestras in the world. After The Auspicious Incident and closing of the Janissary in 1826 by Sultan Mahmud II, the Mehter Band was transformed to a western band. On September 17, 1828, Giuseppe Donizetti assumed the role of principal conductor. Until Sultan Vahdeddin the band was called Mizika-i Humayun (Mızıka-ı Humayun, the Imperial Band). In Vahdeddin's reign, it was called Makam-i Hilafet Muzikasi (The Caliphs Band).
