Empire Professional Baseball League
The Empire Professional Baseball League (EPBL) is an independent baseball league that began play in 2016. The Empire League plays a 40-game regular season followed by a five-game post season. The four-team league consists exclusively of teams from Upstate New York. League offices are in Tampa, Florida. History The Empire League is a replacement of the North Country Baseball League, which folded after one season (and was itself a last-minute replacement for the East Coast Baseball League, which disbanded before the start of the 2015 season). The league fielded four teams based in the states of New York, New Hampshire and Maine for its inaugural season. Fort Covington, New York
Fort Covington is a town in Franklin County, New York, United States. The population was 1,531 at the 2020 census. The name is derived from a War of 1812 fortification. The original name of the town was ''French Mills''. The town is on the county's northern border, which is also the Canada–United States border. History The area of what is now Fort Covington was settled during the 1790s by people from southern Canada and Vermont, who were drawn to the area by a need for people to work at the mills located on the Salmon River. Malone, New York
Malone is a town in Franklin County, New York, United States. The population was 12,433 at the 2020 census. The town contains a village also named Malone. The town is an interior town located in the north-central part of the county. History The town was formed from part of the town of Chateaugay in 1805. The town was originally named "Harison", after Richard Harison, who had purchased the land and founded the town. The name was changed in 1808 to "Ezraville", after Ezra L'Hommedieu, and in 1812 to "Malone". Malone Border Hounds
The Malone Border Hounds are an independent minor league baseball team based in Malone, New York that plays in the Empire Professional Baseball League. The Border Hounds play their home games at the American Legion Post 219 Veterans Field in Malone and have been managed by former MLB pitcher Ray King since 2024. History The Border Hounds began play in the Empire Professional Baseball League (EPBL) in 2023. They finished second among five teams in the 2023 EPBL season after ending the season on a twelve-game win streak, and then followed that up by capturing the 2023 EPBL championship with a 2–0 series win over the Plattsburgh Thunderbirds. The Saranac Lake Surge are an independent American professional baseball team based in Saranac Lake, New York. The Surge play in the Empire Professional Baseball League, which is not affiliated with Major League Baseball. History In 2015, the Surge was set to be a member of the East Coast Baseball League. The team was to be managed by Scott "Skip" Nathanson. EQT Park is a 3,200-seat multi-purpose stadium in North Franklin Township, a suburb of Washington, Pennsylvania. It hosted its first regular season baseball game on May 29, 2002, as the primary tenants of the facility, the Washington Wild Things, lost to the Canton Coyotes, 3-0. In professional team sports, a traveling team (also called a road team) is a member of a professional league that never competes in a home arena or stadium. This differs from a barnstorming team as a barnstorming team competes in exhibition games and not within a league or association framework as a traveling team does. The Aguada Explorers are an independent professional baseball team playing in the American Empire Professional Baseball League, which is not affiliated with Major League Baseball. The team is currently based in the municipality of Aguada, Puerto Rico, previously playing out of the cities of Rome and Loch Sheldrake in New York.
