Elston is a village and civil parish in the Newark and Sherwood district, in Nottinghamshire, England, to the south-west of Newark, from the A46 Fosse Way. The population of the civil parish taken at the 2011 census was 631, increasing to 697 at the 2021 census. It lies between the rivers Trent and Devon, with the village "set amongst trees and farmland less than a mile from the A46.... Newark is five miles to the north, with... Don Elston
Donald Ray Elston (April 6, 1929 – January 2, 1995) was an American relief pitcher who appeared in 450 games in Major League Baseball, all but one of them as a member of the Chicago Cubs (1953, 1957–1964). Elston batted and threw right-handed, stood tall and weighed . He was born in Campbellstown, Ohio, and attended Camden High School. His 18-season professional baseball career began in the Cub farm system in 1948. A hard thrower, Elston played for perennially weak Cubs teams over the course of his nine-year major league tenure. After a brief late-season trial with the 1953 Cubs, when he was treated rudely by the Philadelphia Phillies and St. Louis Cardinals, he was sent back to the minor leagues for the next two campaigns. Elston Howard
Elston Gene Howard (February 23, 1929 – December 14, 1980) was an American professional baseball player who was a catcher and a left fielder. During a 14-year baseball career, he played in the Negro league baseball, Negro leagues and Major League Baseball from 1948 through 1968, primarily for the New York Yankees. A 12-time Major League Baseball All-Star Game, All-Star, he also played for the Kansas City Monarchs and the Boston Red Sox. Howard served on the Yankees' coaching staff from 1969 to 1979. In 1955, he was the first African American player on the Yankees roster, eight years after Jackie Robinson had broken MLB's color barrier in 1947. Murray John Elston (born October 8, 1949) is a former politician in Ontario Canada. He was a Liberal member of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario from 1981 to 1994 who represented the central Ontario ridings of Huron—Bruce and Bruce. He was a senior cabinet minister in the government of David Peterson. He briefly served as interim leader of the Liberal Party from July to November 1991. Robert Gene Elston (March 26, 1922 – September 5, 2015) was an American Major League Baseball (MLB) broadcaster, primarily with the Houston Astros. Early life and career A native of Fort Dodge, Iowa, Elston was born on March 26, 1922. He started work in 1940 with the radio station KVFD. He did baseball and high school basketball before he was sent to serve in World War II. He returned in 1944 for the station. He moved to Waterloo, Iowa to cover the minor league baseball Waterloo White Hawks of the Illinois–Indiana–Iowa League in 1946. Darrell Elston
Darrell Eugene Elston (born August 15, 1952) is an American former professional basketball player. Born in Tipton, Indiana, he was a guard and played collegiately at the University of North Carolina. Elston was selected with the 7th pick of the third round in the 1974 NBA draft by the Atlanta Hawks. He was also selected in the fourth round of the 1974 American Basketball Association draft by the Carolina Cougars. He played for the Virginia Squires in 1974–75, playing 72 games and averaging 8.3 points, 2.3 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game.
