Else-Marie Hansen
Else-Marie Juul Hansen (19 October 1904, Copenhagen — 12 August 2003, Copenhagen) was a Danish actress and a particularly successful soprano operetta singer. Initially a dancer, she made her operetta debut in ''No, No, Nanette'' at Fønix-Teatret, Frederiksberg, in 1927. From the 1930s to the 1950s, she played leading operetta roles in various Copenhagen theatres, frequently performing with Hans Kurt Jensen. In addition to her many film roles, Hansen is remembered for playing Oda Holm in the popular Danish television series ''Matador'' (1978–81). ''No, No, Nanette'' is a musical with a book by Otto Harbach and Frank Mandel based on Mandel's 1919 Broadway play ''My Lady Friends''; lyrics by Irving Caesar and Harbach; and music by Vincent Youmans. The farcical story centers on three couples who find themselves together at a cottage in Atlantic City, New Jersey, in the midst of a blackmail scheme focusing on a fun-loving Manhattan heiress who has run off, leaving an unhappy fiancé. Its songs include the well-known " Tea for Two" and " I Want to Be Happy". After a pre- Broadway tour in 1924, the musical was revised for a production later 1924 in Chicago, where it became a hit and ran for more than a year. The Gypsy Baron
''The Gypsy Baron'' () is an operetta in three acts by Johann Strauss II which premiered at the Theater an der Wien on 24 October 1885. Its German libretto by Ignaz Schnitzer is based on the unpublished 1883 story ''Saffi'' by Mór Jókai. Jokai later published a novel ''A cigánybáró'' (') in 1885 using an expanded version of this same story. While an operetta, ''The Gypsy Baron'' was a departure from Strauss's earlier more comic and light hearted works; displaying more serious tones both musically and dramatically in what musicologist Andrew Lamb (writer), Andrew Lamb described as "a step in Strauss’s quest for the composition of a genuine opera". Odense Teater is a theater in the city of Odense in Denmark. It dates back to 1796, which makes it Denmark's second-oldest theater. It is one of the country's three main theaters. Det Nye Teater was a theatre that opened in Oslo, Norway, in 1929, and operated independently until 1959, when it merged with Folketeatret to form Oslo Nye Teater. Its original purpose was to support contemporary Norwegian drama. History The company A/S Det Nye Teater was founded in 1918, by Johan Bojer and Peter Egge. Among its largest financial supporters was ship owner Ivar An Christensen as well as the Norwegian government, which bought a significant number of shares. The building was designed by the architects Gudolf Blakstad and Jens Gram Dunker. The theatre's first artistic director was Ingolf Schanche, from 1928 to 1931. ''Me and My Girl'' is a musical with music by Noel Gay and its original book and lyrics by Douglas Furber and L. Arthur Rose. The story, set in the late 1930s, tells of an unapologetically unrefined Cockney gentleman named Bill Snibson, who learns that he is the 14th heir to the Earl of Hareford. The action is set in Hampshire, and in Mayfair and Lambeth in London. The musical had a successful original run in the West End in 1937, and was turned into a film in 1939, titled ''The Lambeth Walk'', named after one of the show's songs. "The Lambeth Walk" was also the subject of a news story in ''The Times'' of October 1938: "While dictators rage and statesmen talk, all Europe dances – to The Lambeth Walk."
