Ellson is an unincorporated community in Bremen Township, Pine County, Minnesota, United States. History Ellson was founded around 1895, and named for Edwin Ellson, Sr., one of the town's promoters. A post office called Ellson was established in 1904, and remained in operation until 1925. Geography Ellson is located in the northwestern part of Pine County. The community is located west of Willow River, along Pine County Road 41, near Birch Creek Road, Maple Road and Chokecherry Road. Nearby places include Denham, Willow River, Sturgeon Lake, Rutledge and Pliny. Ellson is five miles south of Denham; and 13 miles east of Pliny. The Geographic Names Information System (GNIS) is a database of name and location information about more than two million physical and cultural features, encompassing the United States and its territories; the Compact of Free Association, associated states of the Marshall Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, and Palau; and Antarctica. Aitkin County ( ) is a county in the U.S. state of Minnesota. As of the 2020 census, the population was 15,697. Its county seat is Aitkin. Part of the Mille Lacs Indian Reservation is in the county. Rutledge is a city in Pine County, Minnesota, United States, at the confluence of the Kettle and Pine Rivers. The population was 229 at the 2010 census. Pine County 61 serves as a main route in the community. The Willard Munger Bicycle / Snowmobile Trail also passes through Rutledge. History Long before it ever became an incorporated village, a group of Indigenous Americans lived along the banks of the Kettle River from where the community is today to a point about five miles downstream. Willow River, Minnesota
Willow River is a city in Pine County, Minnesota, United States, at the confluence of the Kettle and Willow Rivers. The population was 415 at the 2010 census. Interstate 35, County Road 43, and County 61 (Cross Street) are three of the main routes in the community. History The first known settlement in what was to become the Village of Willow River, at the junctions of the Willow and Kettle Rivers, was an encampment of Indigenous Ojibwe peoples. In July 1850, a roadway connecting the upper Mississippi River and the Lake Superior country, named the Point Douglas to St. Louis River Road, and more commonly known as the government military road, went from just south of St. Paul to Duluth.
