Elkridge, Maryland
Elkridge is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in Howard County, Maryland, Howard County, Maryland, United States. Elkridge is a rapidly growing area; between the 2010 and the 2020 census, the population had grown from 15,593 to 25,171. Founded early in the 18th century, Elkridge is adjacent to two other counties, Anne Arundel County, Maryland, Anne Arundel and Baltimore County, Maryland, Baltimore. History Elkridge qualifies as the oldest settlement in its present county, when Howard was a part of Anne Arundel County. Its location on the Patapsco River was a key element in its growth. The Maryland General Assembly elected a law to erect a , forty-lot town at the pre-existing settlement of Elkridge Landing to be called "Jansen Town" in 1733. Elkridge Farm
Elkridge Farm, is a historic slave plantation located in Ellicott City in Howard County, Maryland, United States. In 1913, James Booker Clark built a mansion resembling the White House to house seven children. James Booker was the son of James Clark, Jr., a Confederate soldier who went into the livestock and banking trade after the war. Senator James A. Clark, Jr. was a nephew who traveled to the property regularly from Keewaydin Farm, down the unimproved Montgomery Road. The plantation house was destroyed by fire on 2 July 1920, with a cracked water reservoir, at a time when James Booker Clark was facing litigation against his family, Garnett Y Clark, for a failed coal mine project. Elkridge Furnace Complex
The Elkridge Furnace Complex is a historic iron works located on about at Elkridge, Howard County, Maryland. Overview It comprises the six remaining buildings of an iron furnace that operated from the 18th century into the 1860s. Included are a large -story Federal/Greek Revival house constructed about 1835 as the residence of the furnace owner; a frame dwelling of about the same date which probably accommodated a manager or clerk; a -story company store and hotel or dormitory for furnace workers; two 19th-century outbuildings, possibly slave quarters; and a mid-19th-century brick duplex worker's dwelling. The 1835 Elkridge Furnace Inn is now operated as a restaurant and banquet facility. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1990. Elkridge Landing was a Patapsco River seaport in Maryland, and is now part of Elkridge, Maryland. The historic Elkridge Furnace Complex, Elkridge Furnace Inn site is in Patapsco Valley State Park. The Howard County Public School System (HCPSS) is the school district that manages and runs the public schools of Howard County, Maryland. Elkridge Site
The Elkridge Site, or Elkridge Prehistoric Village Archeological Site, is an archaeological site near Elkridge in Anne Arundel County, Maryland. It is located on a 20-foot (6.1 m) terrace above the Patapsco River and extends 1,200 feet (370 m) along the river and inland from 20 to 400 feet. It is the only known Woodland period riverine-oriented village site in the tidewater Patapsco River valley, partially escaping the destructive forces of gravel quarrying. The site appears to have been abandoned as a permanent village in the early 16th century. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978.
