''Elk's Run'' is a comic book limited series created by writer Joshua Hale Fialkov, artist Noel Tuazon, and colorist Scott A. Keating. It was published in book form on March 27, 2007, by Villard. Comic Book
A comic book, also called comicbook, comic magazine or (in the United Kingdom and Ireland) simply comic, is a publication that consists of comics art in the form of sequential juxtaposed panel (comics), panels that represent individual scenes. Panels are often accompanied by descriptive prose and written narrative, usually, dialogue contained in word balloons emblematic of the comics art form. "Comic Cuts" was a British comic published from 1890 to 1953. It was preceded by "Ally Sloper's Half Holiday" (1884) which is notable for its use of sequential cartoons to unfold narrative. These British comics existed alongside of the popular lurid "Penny dreadfuls" (such as "Spring-heeled Jack"), boys' "Story papers" and the humorous Punch (magazine) which was the first to use the term "cartoon" in its modern sense of a humorous drawing. Limited Series (comics)
In the field of comic books, a limited series is a comics series with a predetermined number of issues. A limited series differs from an ongoing series in that the number of issues is finite and determined before production, and it differs from a one shot in that it is composed of multiple issues. The term is often used interchangeably with miniseries (mini-series) and maxiseries (maxi-series), usually depending on the length and number of issues. In Dark Horse Comics' definition of a limited series, "this term primarily applies to a connected series of individual comic books. A limited series refers to a comic book series with a clear beginning, middle and end". Dark Horse Comics and DC Comics refer to limited series of two to eleven issues as miniseries and series of twelve issues or more as maxiseries, but other publishers alternate terms. Joshua Hale Fialkov
Joshua Hale Fialkov (born August 19, 1979) is an American comic book writer who primarily works in the horror genre. He is best known for ''Echoes'', '' The Bunker'', ''Elk's Run'', '' I, Vampire'', and the 2008 film '' Infected''. He has been nominated for multiple Harvey Awards. Early life Fialkov was born in Sacramento, California, on 19 August 1979, but raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He attended college at Emerson in Boston, Massachusetts, where he received a B.F.A. in writing and directing. After working in film in Boston, he moved to Los Angeles in 2001. Villard, also known as Villard Books, is a publishing imprint of Random House, one of the largest publishing companies in the world, owned by Bertelsmann since 1998 and grouped in Penguin Random House since 2013. Harvey Awards
The Harvey Awards are given for achievement in comic books. Named for writer-artist Harvey Kurtzman, the Harvey Awards were founded by Gary Groth in 1988, president of the publisher Fantagraphics, to be the successor to the Kirby Awards that were discontinued in 1987. The Harvey Awards are now nominated by the Harvey Awards Nomination Committee. The winners are selected by an open vote among comic-book professionals. The Harveys are no longer affiliated with Fantagraphics. The Harvey Awards Executive Committee is made up of unpaid volunteers, and the Awards are financed through sponsorships. ''Echoes'' is an American five-issue comic book limited series written by Joshua Hale Fialkov and drawn by Rahsan Ekedal. Published by Top Cow Productions, it tells the story of Brian Cohn, a man with schizophrenia who learns his father may have been a serial killer. The first issue was released on December 29, 2010. Publication history Joshua Hale Fialkov and Rahsan Ekedal first worked together in 2008 on '' The Cleaners'', a horror comic book series for the publisher Dark Horse Comics. Fialkov brought the story to Ekedal in its early stages, and Ekedal provided some concept art to accompany the pitch. ''The Last of the Greats'' is a comic book limited series created by writer Joshua Hale Fialkov and the artist Brent Peeples. It was published by Image Comics from October 5, 2011, to February 2012. A sequel, ''Return of the Greats'', is forthcoming. Story It takes place in a world where seven alien super powered beings known as the ''Greats'' have eliminated disease, poverty and social inequality. At the start of the story, humanity found a way to kill all of the Greats save one, who kept himself hidden, never bothering to try to help Earth as his siblings did. Now humanity must plead with the last of the Greats to stop an alien invasion that threatens the entire world. There are several startling revelations during the first five issues.
