Elizabeth Bradley (20 May 1922 – 30 October 2000) was an English actress, perhaps most famous for playing battle-axe Maud Grimes in the fictional soap ''Coronation Street''. Early life Bradley was born Joan Abraham in Macclesfield, Cheshire, the daughter of a senior civil servant, and took her father's middle name as her stage surname. She started acting professionally at the age of 23. Bradley's most famous role was as wheelchair-using pensioner Maud Grimes in ''Coronation Street'', from 1993 to 1999. The character was sometimes called "the mother-in-law from hell". She filmed 476 episodes during this time. Bradley had previously played character Councillor Adams in the soap in 1978, but was credited then as Margaret Bradley. Elizabeth Bradley (born 1955, Canada) is a drama professional and educator appointed Chair of the Department of Drama, Tisch School of the Arts, New York University, United States, on 1 June 2008. She chairs the US board of the National Theatre of Scotland. Education Bradley earned her BFA degree in theatre from York University in Toronto. Professional appointments Bradley worked as a programming consultant for the National Arts Centre in Ottawa before her first major appointment as CEO of the Hummingbird Centre for the Performing Arts in Toronto, the largest in Canada, where she served for a decade in the 1990s. She also worked as general manager and director of communications and special projects at the Stratford Shakespeare Festival of Canada. Elizabeth Bradley (born April 9, 1961) is an American applied mathematician and computer scientist, and a former Olympic rower. She is a professor of computer science at the University of Colorado Boulder, where she specializes in nonlinear systems and nonlinear time series analysis. Rowing Bradley competed in the women's coxed four event at the 1988 Summer Olympics, with rowers Jennifer Corbet, Cynthia Eckert, and Sarah Gengler, and coxswain Kim Santiago. Their boat placed fifth out of the ten boats competing in the event. She also competed in the 1986 World Rowing Championships, placing fourth in women's eights, and in the 1987 World Rowing Championships, placing fourth in women's pairs.
