Electoral Division Of Wanguri
Wanguri is an electoral division of the Legislative Assembly in Australia's Northern Territory. It was first created in 1983. Wanguri is an urban electorate, covering 29 km2, and taking in the north Darwin suburbs of Wanguri, Karama and Leanyer. There were 6,111 people enrolled within the electorate as of August 2020. Like most electorates in the Territory, Wanguri has a tendency to keep its incumbent members regardless of party. While the Country Liberal Party held it for six years after its creation in 1983, the Labor Party have held it since a 1989 by-election, and it is now reckoned as reasonably safe for that party. Paul Henderson was not expected to have much difficulty retaining Wanguri at the 2005 election, and ultimately held the seat with a strong swing in his favour. When Henderson resigned in 2013, following his government's defeat in the 2012 election, the resulting by-election saw Nicole Manison hold the seat for Labor. Manison managed to pick up a ... Leanyer, Northern Territory
Leanyer is a northern suburb of Darwin, Northern Territory, Australia. History It is on the traditional Country and waterways of the Larrakia people. The name Leanyer was in general use for the area at the time of development and first appeared on 1869 survey plans. Leanyer is thought to be derived from an Aboriginal word. During World War II Leanyer was established as a military area, there was an Army post and a military equipment storage facility, gun turrets were also set up along the coast of Lee Point. It was disbanded soon after the end of World War II and residential development of Leanyer started during the 1970s. Donald Francis Dale (8 December 1944 – 13 February 1990) was an Australian politician. He was the Country Liberal Party member for Wanguri in the Northern Territory Legislative Assembly from 1983 to 1989, when he resigned due to ill health. The 2016 Northern Territory general election was held on Saturday 27 August 2016 to elect all 25 members of the Northern Territory Legislative Assembly, Legislative Assembly in the unicameral Northern Territory Parliament. Antony John Green (born 2 March 1960) is an Australian Psephology, psephologist, Data science, data scientist, journalist, and commentator. Nicole Susan Manison (born 1979) is an Australian politician. She was a Labor Party member of the Northern Territory Legislative Assembly from 2013 to 2024, representing the electorate of Wanguri. She previously served as Deputy Chief Minister from 2016 to 2023, serving under both Michael Gunner and Natasha Fyles. She was also Treasurer from 2016 to 2020. Manison was born in Tennant Creek, and she later studied journalism and public relations at Curtin University in Perth. A by-election for the seat of Electoral division of Wanguri, Wanguri in the Northern Territory Legislative Assembly was held on 16 February 2013. 2012 Northern Territory General Election
A general election was held in the Northern Territory on Saturday 25 August 2012, which elected all 25 members of the Legislative Assembly in the unicameral Northern Territory Parliament. The 11-year Labor Party government led by Chief Minister Paul Henderson was decisively defeated in their attempt to win a fourth term against the opposition Country Liberal Party led by opposition leader Terry Mills with a swing of five seats, losing the normally safe Labor remote seats of Arafura, Arnhem, Daly, Namatjira and Stuart, whilst retaining their urban seats picked up at the 2001 election. 2005 Northern Territory Legislative Election
A general election was held in the Northern Territory, Australia, on 18 June 2005. The centre-left Labor Party, led by Chief Minister Clare Martin, won a second term with a landslide victory, winning six of the ten seats held by the opposition Country Liberal Party in the 25-member Northern Territory Legislative Assembly, bringing their total to 19. It was the second largest victory in any Northern Territory election. The only larger majority in the history of the Territory was in the first election, in 1974. In that contest, the CLP won 17 of the 19 seats in the chamber, and faced only two independents as opposition. The most notable casualty was Opposition Leader Denis Burke's loss of his own seat of Brennan. It was only the second time a party leader in the Territory had been defeated in his own electorate, after Majority Leader Goff Letts losing his seat of Victoria River in 1977. Paul Henderson (politician)
Paul Raymond Henderson (born 15 August 1962) is a former Australian politician who was Chief Minister of the Northern Territory from 2007 to 2012. He has been Chancellor of Charles Darwin University since March 2019. Background and early career Henderson was born in Croix-Chapeau, France, where his father was serving with the United States military. He was educated in the United Kingdom to A-Levels and studied mechanical engineering through the City and Guilds of London Institute. He worked as an apprentice marine fitter in Southampton before emigrating to Australia in 1982, where he worked as an underground fitter at the zinc mines in Rosebery, Tasmania. He moved to Darwin in the Northern Territory in 1983, working as a marine fitter.
