Electoral District Of Nash
The electoral district of Nash was a Legislative Assembly electorate in the state of Queensland, Australia. It was named after James Nash, the discoverer of gold in the area. History Nash was created in the 1949 redistribution, taking effect at the 1950 state election, and existed until the 1960 state election. It centred on the town of Gympie. When Nash was abolished in 1960, its area was incorporated into the recreated district of Gympie. James Nash (prospector)
James Nash (5 September 1834 – 5 October 1913) is popularly acknowledged as the first person to discover gold in 1867,''The Gympie Goldfields 1867–2008'', John Ferguson and Elaine Brown, Gympie Regional Council in the area of Queensland, Australia now known as Gympie. Nash was born in Beanacre, Wiltshire, England, and migrated to Sydney, New South Wales, at the age of 23. In 1863 he moved to Queensland, working at Calliope and Nanango. Nash found rich gold deposits on an extended prospecting tour in 1867 near the Mary River, and his report on 16 October started 'one of the wildest rushes in Queensland history'. Nash died in Gympie, Queensland on 5 October 1913. Allen Maxwell Hodges (11 February 191731 July 2009) was a member of the Queensland Legislative Assembly. Early life Hodges was born in Brisbane, Queensland, the son of Arthur John Hodges and his wife Helen Allen (née Mitchell). His great grandfather, William Mitchell, had represented the seat of Maryborough in the Queensland Legislative Assembly in 1904–1909. He was educated in Maryborough and on leaving school he did farm-related work. Gregory Brian Kehoe (1 May 1917–18 February 2005) was a politician in Queensland, Australia. He was a Member of the Queensland Legislative Assembly. Early life Kehoe was born on 1 May 1917 at Warwick, Queensland, the son of Stephen Kehoe and his wife Teresa Mary (née Flynn). He attended school at St Patrick's Convent, Christian Brothers College, Gympie and then attended the Teachers' Training College, Brisbane. He lived in Gympie where he worked as a stipendiary magistrate. He served in World War II in the 42nd Battalion in the Salamaua–Lae campaign in New Guinea from 1941 to 1945. Personal life He married Cecily Agnes White on 5 June 1948; the couple had 2 sons. Thomas Dunstan (20 April 1873 – 19 June 1954) was a member of the Queensland Legislative Assembly. Early life Dunstan was born at Thames, New Zealand, the son of Nicholas John Dunstan and his wife Esther Mary Ann (née Connon). His brothers were George and William Dunstan. He was educated at Thames State School and the One Mile State School in Gympie. On leaving School he was an apprentice with '' The Gympie Times'' newspaper before joining the ''Gympie Truth'' as a reporter, secretary, and canvasser. In 1901, he was promoted to editor-manager of the Truth and held this position for the next 41 years and in 1943 was the editor of the ''Labor Leader''.
