Electoral District Of Burdekin
Burdekin is an electoral district in the Legislative Assembly of Queensland in the state of Queensland, Australia. Centred on the Ayr–Home Hill region, the electorate also includes some of Townsville's southern semi-rural localities as well as the coal-mining towns of Collinsville, Moranbah and Clermont. The Burdekin River flows through part of the electorate. History The 1949 redistribution abolished the electoral district of Bowen. Part of Bowen was combined with part of Mundingburra (which continued as an electorate, but more centred on Townsville) to create the new electoral district of Burdekin, centred on Ayr and Home Hill. Dale Raymond Last (born 25 February 1964) is an Australian politician. He has been the Liberal National member for Burdekin in the Queensland Legislative Assembly since 2015. He has been the Queensland Minister for Natural Resources and Mines, Manufacturing, and for Regional and Rural Development since 1 November 2024. Collinsville is a town and locality in the Whitsunday Region, Queensland, Australia. In the , the locality of Collinsville had a population of 1,496 people. Geography Collinsville is in the coal-rich Bowen Basin region of Central Queensland, north of Brisbane and south-west of the coastal town of Bowen. The Bowen Developmental Road passes through the town connecting with Bowen to the north-east and the Gregory Highway at Belyando Crossing to the south-west. The Newlands railway system passes through Collinsville serving local mines. Jeffrey Alan Knuth (born 9 March 1962) is an Australian politician. Biography Born in Ayr, Queensland, he was a painter and decorator before entering politics. In 1998, he was elected to the Legislative Assembly of Queensland as a member of Pauline Hanson's One Nation, representing the seat of Burdekin. He was party whip and spokesperson for Public Works and Housing until 23 February 1999, when he resigned from the party to sit as an independent. On 5 August, he formed the Country Party Queensland (initially known as New Country Party QLD) as a splinter group from One Nation, but on 18 February 2000 joined the larger City Country Alliance, led by Bill Feldman. Pauline Hanson's One Nation (PHON), also known as One Nation (ON) or One Nation Party (ONP), is a right-wing populist political party in Australia. It is led by Pauline Hanson. Val Bird
Valmond James "Val" Bird (14 May 1928 – 19 August 2005) was a member of the Queensland Legislative Assembly. Biography Bird was born at Ingham, Queensland, the son of Walter James Bird and his wife Ruth Elizabeth (née Thornton). He was educated at Ingham State School and after leaving he was a representative for the Golden Fleece Oil Company. He was also the secretary and industrial officer for the Ayr District Canegrowers Executive. On 14 May 1955 Bird married Valma Jean Burns (divorced 1998) and together had three daughters. After he had serious fall in 2001 which left in a coma from which he was not expected to emerge, his daughters discovered they had another sister that Bird fathered in his teen years.
