Barron River is an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of Queensland. Created at the 1971 redistribution, it currently covers the northern suburbs of Cairns, as well as Kuranda. The Barron River from which the electorate derives its name runs through its centre. In Australian politics, the two-party-preferred vote (TPP or 2PP), is the result of an opinion poll or a projection of an election result where preferences are distributed to one of the two major parties, the Labor Party and the Liberal/National Coalition e.g. "Coalition 50%, Labor 50%. The preference distribution is usually based upon the results of the last election, and the votes for other candidates are distributed between to the two parties. As such the TPP is a rough indicator of voting intent that focuses on determining the likely majority in the lower house. It is compared to previous values to predict the swing and hence the likelihood of a change in government between the major parties. Craig Daryl Crawford (born 17 January 1970) is an Australian politician. He has been the Labor member for the Far North Queensland seat of Barron River in the Queensland Legislative Assembly since 2015. Career Crawford began his professional career working in hotel management. During his 20 years of voluntary service to the Victorian Country Fire Authority, he was promoted to the rank of captain and selected to be an ambulance paramedic. He went on to work for both Ambulance Victoria and the Queensland Ambulance Service respectively for over 15 years. He has a Diploma of Ambulance Paramedic Studies and a Certificate IV in Fire Technology.
