Politics Of Basilicata
The politics of Basilicata takes place in a framework of a presidential representative democracy, whereby the President of Regional Government is the head of government, and of a pluriform multi-party system. Executive power is exercised by the Regional Government. Legislative power is vested in both the government and the Regional Council. Vito Bardi
Vito Bardi (born 18 September 1951) is the 9th and current President of Basilicata since 16 April 2019. Biography Military career Bardi joined the Guardia di Finanza in 1970. He was promoted Colonel, on 31 December 1995, and later Army Corps General in 2009. He served as deputy General Commander of the Guardia di Finanza from 5 September 2013 to 4 September 2014. During his life, Bardi graduated four times in Economy, in Law, in International and Diplomatic Sciences and in Economic and Financial Security Sciences. Political career At the 2019 Basilicata regional election, Bardi was appointed by Silvio Berlusconi himself as the centre-right candidate for the office of President of Basilicata, supported by Forza Italia, the Northern League and Brothers of Italy. Lega ( en, League), whose official name is Lega per Salvini Premier ( en, League for Salvini Premier; abbr. LSP or LpSP), is a right-wing populist political party in Italy, led by Matteo Salvini. The LSP is the informal successor of Lega Nord ( en, Northern League, LN) and, while sharing the latter's heartland in northern Italy, it is active all around the country. The LSP was founded in December 2017 as the sister party of the LN and as a replacement of Us with Salvini (NcS), the LN's previous affiliate in central and southern Italy. 1995 Basilicata Regional Election
The 1995 Basilicata regional election took place on 23 April 1995. The election was for all 30 seats of the Regional Council of Basilicata and the president of Basilicata, who automatically became a member of the council alongside two other seats, plus that of the second-placed candidate. It was the third-last election of the 1995 Italian regional elections. For the first time, the president of the region was directly elected by the people, although the election was not yet binding and the president-elect could have been replaced during the term. Raffaele Dinardo of the Populars was elected president of the region, defeating Giampiero Perri of Forza Italia by a landslide.
