Elections In Armenia
Armenia has a multi-party system. After the 2015 Armenian constitutional referendum, only a legislature is elected on the national level. Electoral system of the National Assembly The National Assembly consists of at least 101 seats. Following electoral system amendments introduced in April 2021, members of parliament are elected only through closed party lists by party list proportional representation method modified by a minority jackpot and optional second round with a majority jackpot . Four mandates are reserved for national minorities, provided they are included in corresponding section of party lists. Any top segment of a party list can not include over 70% of representatives of the same sex. Parties need to pass a 5% threshold, while alliances (blocs) must pass 7% to be included in mandate distribution. I Have Honor Alliance
I Have Honor () is a political alliance in Armenia. It was founded on 15 May 2021 as an alliance between the Republican Party of Armenia and the Homeland Party. The Homeland Party withdrew from the alliance in June 2022. History The alliance was formed during the 2020–2021 Armenian protests. Both the Republican Party and the Homeland Party were previous members of the Homeland Salvation Movement and called on Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan to resign following Armenia's defeat in the 2020 Nagorno-Karabakh war. Both parties subsequently left the Homeland Salvation Movement to form the I Have Honor alliance. The alliance had confirmed that they would participate in the 2021 Armenian parliamentary elections. Artur Vanetsyan was nominated to lead the alliance. Following the election, the alliance won 5.22% of the popular vote, gaining 6 seats in the National Assembly. Free Homeland Alliance
The Free Homeland Alliance () is a political alliance between five political parties in Armenia. History The alliance was founded in May 2021 and subsequently announced its intention to participate in the 2021 Armenian parliamentary elections. Mikael Hayrapetyan was nominated to lead the alliance, while Andreas Ghukasyan was the bloc's candidate for prime minister. Following the election, the alliance won just 0.32% of the popular vote, failing to gain any representation in the National Assembly. The alliance disputed the results of the election and claimed that the election was non-democratic. The alliance currently acts as an extra-parliamentary force. National Christian Party (Armenia)
The National Christian Party (), also known as the Awakening National Christian Party is a conservative political party in Armenia. History The party was founded on 29 April 2021 during the 2020–2021 Armenian protests, and is led by Ara Zohrabyan. The party confirmed it would participate in the 2021 Armenian parliamentary elections. Following the election, the party won just 0.36% of the popular vote. The party does not maintain any representation within the National Assembly and currently acts as an extra-parliamentary force. In November 2021, the party participated in local elections in the city of Gyumri, winning 4 seats on the Gyumri city council. Democratic Party Of Armenia
The Democratic Party of Armenia (, ''Hayastani Demokratakan Kusaktsutyun'') is a democratic socialist political party in Armenia. It was established in 1991 by Aram Gaspar Sargsyan, the last secretary of the Soviet-era Communist Party of Armenia when the party ruled the Armenian Soviet Socialist Republic (Armenian SSR) from 1920 until 1990. Armenia is Our Home, also known as the Our Home is Armenia Party (), is an Armenian political alliance between the Alliance Party and the Union of Armenians of Russia organization. History The Armenia is Our Home Party was first founded in 2004 and led by Vachakan Chibukhchyan. It was then de-registered in 2016 but re-registered in 2018, following the Velvet Revolution. Bright Armenia () is a classical liberal political party in Armenia founded on 12 December 2015. History In 2017, Bright Armenia launched an educational program aimed at advancing and promoting liberal politics, known as the Institute of Liberal Politics (ILP); it is an affiliated member of the European Liberal Forum.
