"Elected" is a song by American rock band Alice Cooper, released in 1972 as the first single off their sixth album '' Billion Dollar Babies''. It reached number 26 during election week on charts in the United States, number 4 in the United Kingdom and number 3 in Austria. The promotional music video was directed by Hart Perry. Composition "Elected" is a hard rock song with glam rock influences. Its political theme was inspired by the 1972 United States presidential election. Cooper called the song “total political satire," and added “we hated politics, but the idea of Alice, the scourge of the entire world, being president was just too good.” Both the riff and part of the melody were recycled from "Reflected" which appeared on their 1969 album '' Pretties for You''. Alice Cooper, also known as the Alice Cooper Group or the Alice Cooper Band, is an American rock band formed in Phoenix, Arizona, in 1968. The band originally consisted of lead singer Vincent Furnier (who adopted the stage name Alice Cooper), Glen Buxton (lead guitar), Michael Bruce (rhythm guitar, keyboards), Dennis Dunaway (bass guitar), and Neal Smith (drums). The band was notorious for their elaborate, theatrical shock rock stage shows. Released 9 August 1974, it features hit songs from five of the band's seven studio albums. It does not include any material from their first two albums, '' Pretties for You'' and ''Easy Action''. This compilation's song versions were remixed by Jack Richardson at the time, with the remix of "I'm Eighteen" being released as a single in the US. The reason behind remixing the songs was perhaps to boost its appeal as "new" versions because no new tracks were available for inclusion by the group as they were on hiatus at the time. "I Wanna Be Sedated" is a song by American punk rock band Ramones, originally released on the band's fourth studio album, '' Road to Ruin'' (1978), in September 1978 and as the B-side of the UK single "She's the One" released on September 21, 1978.
