Eemeli Salomäki
Eemeli Niko Antero Salomäki (born 11 October 1987 in Turku) is a Finnish pole vaulter. He competed at the World Junior Championships in 2006 and at the World Championships in 2009 without reaching the final. His personal best vault is 5.60 metres, achieved in August 2009 in Espoo. In the 2010 season he equalled his personal best mark at the 2010 European Athletics Championships, but this mark was not enough to gain him qualification into the final. 2012 European Athletics Championships
The 2012 European Athletics Championships were held in Helsinki, Finland between 27 June and 1 July 2012. This edition marks the beginning of a new two-year cycle of the European Athletics Championships which were previously held every four years. The decision to grant the games for Helsinki was made by the European Athletics Congress on 9 November 2009. Another city that showed interest in hosting the event was Nuremberg, Germany, however Helsinki was in pole position during the whole process. This was the third time that the city had hosted the event, 1971 and 1994 being the other occasions. 2009 World Championships In Athletics – Men's Pole Vault
The Men's Pole Vault event at the 2009 World Championships in Berlin, Germany will be held between 20 August and 22 August 2009. Reigning Olympic champion Steven Hooker came into the competition nursing a pulled hamstring incurred 12 days before the championships. Minimizing his effort, he only took one (successful) attempt in qualifying and two attempts in the final. Hooker waited until only three other competitors were left in the field. Hooker agonized in the pit after missing his attempt at 5.85, then watched Romain Mesnil clear. After one failure Renaud Lavillenie joined Hooker in passing to the next height while Maksym Mazuryk, who had passed to get to 5.85 exhausted his attempts. Constantly stretching and massaging his hamstring, Hooker successfully cleared 5.90 with room to spare, leaping from nothing to first place. Mesnil and Lavillenie could not answer.
