Edwin Arthur Jones
Edwin Arthur Jones, (June 28, 1853 – January 9, 1911) was an American composer. His works include a cantata and a large oratorio in three parts, modeled after Handel's ''Messiah''. Early life and education Edwin Arthur Jones was born in Stoughton, Massachusetts, on June 28, 1853. After studies at the New England Conservatory of Music in violin, organ and harmony, Jones entered Dartmouth College in 1872. That same year, Jones was a violinist among the thousands of instrumentalists and singers who played at the World's Peace Jubilee and International Musical Festival in Boston, organized by bandmaster Patrick Gilmore. One of the special invited guests was the Viennese composer, Johann Strauss Jr., who performed some of his popular waltzes. Edwin Jones (footballer)
Thomas Edwin Jones (1891–1953) was an English professional association football player in the years both prior to and after the First World War. He made over 100 appearances in The Football League for Bristol City. He also played over 60 times in the Southern League for Exeter City. Football career Jones was born in Tyldesley in 1891 where he played for the local clubs Tyldesley, Atherton and Chorley. A talented rugby League as a youth, both Wigan and Wakefield Trinity showed an interest in signing him. Jones signed for Bolton Wanderers but does not appear as a player for them. While at Bolton Wanderers, Jones continued to play for Penrith and then Chorley in the Lancashire Combination. In July 1909 Jones joined Exeter City from Chorley making his Southern League debut at right-back in a 1–2 defeat at Croydon Common on 4 September 1909. Edwin Jones (department Store)
Edwin Jones was a large department store in Southampton, England founded in 1860 in East Street, Southampton with further stores established in Old Christchurch Road, Bournemouth, and Clinton Arcade, Weymouth. The business became part of the Drapery Trust, later a subsidiary of Debenhams, in 1928. The store was re-branded as Debenhams in 1973. History Edwin Jones and his sister, along with a 12 year old apprentice opened a small single fronted shop in 1860, before expanding to larger premises in the same street shortly after, later expanding this store by buying the neighboring Blue Boar pub. In 1880 he bought buildings facing the park in East Street, after failing to purchase the Wesleyan Chapel, which he demolished and built into what was called the Queen's Building. Prior to this expansion, Edwin Jones had become the mayor of Southampton in 1873 and 1875, retiring as a councilor in 1890.
