Eduardo Ramírez Villamizar
Eduardo Ramírez Villamizar (27 August 1922 – 24 August 2004) was a Colombian painter and Sculpture, sculptor. He is considered a pioneer of Abstract art, abstract, Minimalism (visual arts), minimalist, and Constructivism (art), Constructivist art in Colombia, and in Latin America more broadly. Early life and education Ramírez Villamizar was born on 27 August 1922 in Pamplona, Norte de Santander, to parents Adela Villamizar and Jesús Ramírez Castro. He was the youngest of eleven children. His father was a jeweler, and his first experiences making visual art took place in his father's studio. He and his family moved to Cúcuta in 1929 in seek of work and economic opportunity after being Bankruptcy, bankrupted in the Great Depression. In 1940 he moved to Bogotá to study architecture at the National University of Colombia, though he changed his focus to painting in 1944. Pamplona, Norte De Santander
Pamplona (pronounced ) is a municipality and city in Norte de Santander, Colombia. It is the fifth most populated city and the sixth most populated municipality in the Departments of Colombia, department. History Colonization The town was founded on 1 November 1549 as Nueva Pamplona del Valle del Espíritu Santo, named after Pamplona, the capital of the Kingdom of Navarre, Crown of Castile, by Pedro de Ursúa and Ortún Velasco de Velázquez. From there, the expeditions departed which founded the towns of Mérida, San Cristóbal and La Grita, in the Republic of Venezuela, and Ocaña, Salazar de las Palmas, Chinácota, San Faustino, Bucaramanga and Cúcuta in Colombia, among others. Édgar Negret
Édgar Negret Dueñas (October 11, 1920 – October 11, 2012) was a Colombian abstract sculptor. Life Negret was born in Popayán, Colombia. He attended the School of Fine Arts in Cali, Colombia, where he started his first studies in the year 1938 with the founder and teacher Jesus Maria Espinosa. Initially working in stone in styles reminiscent of European modernists like Jean Arp and Constantin Brâncuși. By the early 1950s, he began working in metal in constructivist tradition. In 1955, his art was acquired by the Museum of Modern Art. In 1963, he won the Salón de Artistas Colombianos, and therein became one of the most prominent Colombian sculptors of the 20th century. In 1968, he was awarded the David E. Bright Sculpture Prize, at the Thirty-fourth Venice Biennial. In 1985, the Museum Negret opened.
