Eat It (Humble Pie Album)
''Eat It'' is the sixth album by English rock band Humble Pie, released in April 1973 through A&M Records. Released as a double album, it peaked at number 13 on the US ''Billboard'' 200, number 34 in the UK Albums Chart, and number 9 in Australia. Background Steve Marriott had been talking to the group about having backing singers from early on. During the recording of ''Eat It'', he had been in touch with Venetta Fields and asked her to find two other women to help her out. Fields chose Clydie King and Sherlie Matthews (both previously with Raeletts) to become the Blackberries and flew to London. When Marriott asked them to perform on tour with Humble Pie, Sherlie Matthews declined due to other commitments, including her two children and her husband. Humble Pie
Humble Pie are an English Rock music, rock band formed by Steve Marriott and Peter Frampton in Moreton, Essex, in 1969. They are known as one of the first Supergroup (music), supergroups of the late 1960s and enjoyed success in the early 1970s with songs such as "Black Coffee (Ike & Tina Turner song), Black Coffee", "30 Days in the Hole", "I Don't Need No Doctor", "Hot 'n' Nasty" and "Natural Born Bugie". The original line-up featured vocalist and guitarist Steve Marriott of the Small Faces, vocalist and guitarist Peter Frampton of The Herd (British band), the Herd, bassist Greg Ridley and a 17-year-old drummer, Jerry Shirley, of the Apostolic Intervention. The Blackberries
The Blackberries was an American female vocal trio formed in the 1970s. They were a backing vocal group for various musicians, as well as songwriters. They performed with various acts, including Pacific Gas & Electric, Humble Pie, Ringo Starr, and Pink Floyd. The Blackberries recorded for Motown's West Coast subsidiary Mowest and A&M Records. Edwin Starr
Charles Edwin Hatcher (January 21, 1942 – April 2, 2003), known by his stage name Edwin Starr, was an American singer and songwriter. He is best remembered for his Norman Whitfield-produced Motown singles of the 1970s, most notably the number-one hit " War". Born in Nashville and raised in Cleveland, Ohio, he later lived in Detroit while singing for Ric-Tic and Motown Records. He was backed by the band that became known as " Black Merda". Hawkins and Veasey of the group played on most of his early hits on the Ric Tic Label. Starr's songs " Twenty-Five Miles" and "Stop the War Now" were also major successes, in 1969 and 1971 respectively. Johnny Bristol
John William Bristol (February 3, 1939 – March 21, 2004) was an American musician, most famous as a songwriter and record producer for the Motown label in the late 1960s and early 1970s. He was a native of Morganton, North Carolina, about which he wrote an eponymous song. His composition " Love Me for a Reason" saw global success when covered by the Osmonds including a number one on the UK charts in 1974. His most famous solo recording was " Hang On in There Baby" recorded in 1974, which reached the top ten in the United States and number 3 in the United Kingdom. Ray Charles
Ray Charles Robinson (September 23, 1930 – June 10, 2004) was an American singer, songwriter, and pianist. He is regarded as one of the most iconic and influential musicians in history, and was often referred to by contemporaries as "The Genius". Ike Turner
Izear Luster "Ike" Turner Jr. (November 5, 1931 – December 12, 2007) was an American musician, bandleader, songwriter, record producer, and talent scout. An early pioneer of 1950s rock and roll, he is best known for his work in the 1960s and 1970s with his wife Tina Turner as the leader of the Ike & Tina Turner Revue. "Black Coffee" is a song written by Tina Turner. It was originally recorded by Ike & Tina Turner for their 1972 album ''Feel Good'' on United Artists Records. English rock band Humble Pie released a popular rendition of the song in 1973. Humble Pie version Humble Pie covered "Black Coffee" for their 1973 album ''Eat It'' on A&M Records. Small Faces
Small Faces were an English Rock music, rock band from London, founded in 1965. The group originally consisted of Steve Marriott, Ronnie Lane, Kenney Jones and Jimmy Winston, with Ian McLagan replacing Winston as the band's keyboardist in 1966. Moreton, Essex
Moreton is a village in the Epping Forest district of the County of Essex, England. It is located 7.2 miles (11.6 km) east of Harlow and 3.2 miles (5.14 km) north-west of Chipping Ongar. Two thousand years ago, it was the point at which a Roman style road, connecting Great Dunmow (Stane Street) to London, crossed the Cripsey Brook . Today the bridge that crosses the Cripsey is still a feature of Moreton, and although it's not two thousand years old, its construction nonetheless predates the advent of mass motorised transport. There being no weight limits on the village lanes in this corner of Essex, this narrow bridge has become somewhat degraded over recent decades, by the passage of large trucks and of other vehicles driven with insufficient precision between its parapets. ''Performance: Rockin' the Fillmore'' is the 1971 live double-LP/single-CD by the English blues-rock group Humble Pie, recorded at the Fillmore East in New York City on May 28–29, 1971. It reached No. 21 on the ''Billboard'' 200, #32 in Canada, and entered the UK Top 40. Background The hour-long set contains one original song and several cover versions. The song listed as "Four Day Creep" is attributed to the classic blues singer Ida Cox, but bears no melodic or lyrical resemblance to her self-recorded composition of that title. The single version of " I Don't Need No Doctor" was backed with "A Song for Jenny" from the '' Rock On'' album, which Marriott wrote for his first wife, Jenny Rylance.
