East African School Of Library And Information Science
The East African School of Library and Information Science, also known as EASLIS, is one of the schools that make up the College of Computing and Information Science (COCIS) at Uganda's largest university, Makerere University in Uganda. EASLIS is located at Makerere University's main campus in Kampala, just next to Uganda's oldest academic library which is Makerere University's Main Library (old entrance) and it is situated next to the junction that leads to the school of Chemistry and not far from the university's Main Administration Block and the Freedom Square. History The school was founded in the year 1963 shortly after Uganda had gained independence and its establishment was meant to foster the development of library professionals in the East African countries which were three by then (Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania). Makerere University
Makerere University (; Mak) is Uganda's largest and oldest institution of higher learning, first established as a technical school in 1922, and the oldest currently active university in East Africa. It became an independent national university in 1970. Makerere University Library
Makerere University Library, established in 1949, is the oldest academic library in Uganda. In addition to its primary role as an academic library, it also serves as the national reference library and the legal depository of all works published in Uganda. It has been a depository for the United Nations since 1956. Along with the main library, there are seven specialized branch libraries. Today Makerere University is composed of nine colleges. Professor Robert Ikoja-Odongo, also Robert Ikoja Odongo or simply Robert Ikoja (born 1950), is a Ugandan academic and academic administrator. He is the current Vice Chancellor of Soroti University, a public University in Uganda. Background and education He was born in Soroti, Uganda, circa 1950. He holds the degree of Bachelor of Arts, awarded by Makerere university, the largest and oldest public university in the country.
