Montrose ( , gd, Monadh Rois) is a town and former royal burgh in Angus, Scotland. Situated north of Dundee and south of Aberdeen, Montrose lies between the mouths of the North and South Esk rivers. It is the northernmost coastal town in Angus and developed as a natural harbour that traded in skins, hides, and cured salmon in medieval times. Montrose is a city in Lee County, Iowa. The population was 738 at the time of the 2020 census. The town is located on the Mississippi River. It is part of the Fort Madison–Keokuk, IA-IL-MO Micropolitan Statistical Area. History The area around Montrose has been occupied continuously since at least the 1780s, when Quashquame's village was established nearby. The area was strategically important because it is at the head of the Des Moines Rapids, a major impediment to river traffic that caused large boats to land in this area and transfer freight overland to avoid the rapids. Montrose was the location of Fort Des Moines No. 1, a military post from 1834 to 1837. From 1839 to 1846 Montrose was the home of many members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Montrose is a historic estate and national historic district located at Hillsborough, Orange County, North Carolina. The main house was built about 1900 and remodeled in 1948. It is a two-story, three bay, double-pile frame dwelling with a high-hip, slate-covered roof, and flanking one-story wings. It features a Colonial Revival style pedimented entrance pavilion with a swan's neck pediment. Montrose is a former village in Sioux County, Nebraska, United States. The townsite is located near the intersection of the Powder River Trail and the Cheyenne & Black Hills Stage Road and is now a part of the Oglala National Grassland. All that remains of the town is the historic Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, built there in 1887. Montrose is a historic mansion in Holly Springs, Mississippi, United States. Location It is located at 335 East Salem Avenue in Holly Springs, a small town in Northern Mississippi. History The mansion was commissioned by Alfred Aaron Brooks (1802-1888), a plantation owner, as a wedding present for his daughter. It was completed in 1858. It was designed in the Greek Revival architectural style, as a two-storey mansion with red bricks and white Corinthian columns. Inside, there is a circular staircase with a niche. Later, it was home to the Holly Springs Garden Club, with an arboretum on the grounds. The house may be toured during the annual Annual Pilgrimage and Home Tour.
