Eagle's Point
''Eagle's Point'' is an album by Chris Potter. It was recorded in 2022 and released in 2024 by Edition Records. Music and recording Saxophonist and bass clarinetist Potter, pianist Brad Mehldau, bassist John Patitucci, and drummer Brian Blade had known each since the 1990s but had never recorded together before this album, which was laid down at The Bunker Studio in 2022. Potter wrote all of the eight tracks and was also the album producer. He plays tenor saxophone throughout, except for bass clarinet for the first half of "Indigo Ildikó" and soprano saxophone on "Aria for Anna". Release and reception ''Eagle's Point'' was released by Edition Records on March 8, 2024. The ''Financial Times'' reviewer described it as "an album of beautifully poised modern jazz, laden with the strength of character and rhythmic interplay to balance Potter's advanced technique." Chris Potter (born January 1, 1971) is an American jazz saxophonist, composer, and multi-instrumentalist. Jazz
Jazz is a music genre that originated in the African-American communities of New Orleans, Louisiana, in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Its roots are in blues, ragtime, European harmony, African rhythmic rituals, spirituals, hymns, marches, vaudeville song, and dance music. Brad Mehldau
Bradford Alexander Mehldau (; born August 23, 1970) is an American jazz pianist, composer, and arranger. Mehldau studied music at The New School, touring and recording while still a student. He was a member of saxophonist Joshua Redman's quartet in the mid-1990s, and has led his own trio since the early 1990s. His first long-term trio featured bassist Larry Grenadier and drummer Jorge Rossy; in 2005 Jeff Ballard replaced Rossy. These bands have released more than a dozen albums under the pianist's name. Since the early 2000s, Mehldau has experimented with other musical formats in addition to trio and solo piano. John Patitucci
John Patitucci (born December 22, 1959) is an American jazz bassist and composer. Biography John James Patitucci was born in Brooklyn, New York. He began playing the electric bass at age 10, performing and composing at age 12, and at age 15, started playing the acoustic bass, as well as piano by age 16. He listened to bass parts in R&B songs on the radio and on his grandfather's jazz records. He cites as influences Oscar Peterson's albums with Ray Brown (musician), Ray Brown and Wes Montgomery's with Ron Carter. For the development of rhythm, he points to the time he has spent with Danilo Pérez, a pianist from Panama. In the late 1970s he studied acoustic bass at San Francisco State University and Long Beach State University. Brian Blade (born July 25, 1970) is an American jazz drummer, composer, and session musician. Early life Born and raised in Shreveport, Louisiana, Blade was exposed to gospel and praise music while attending Zion Baptist Church at which his father, Brady L. Blade Sr., was pastor. Blade initially began learning violin and participated in the church choir, an experience which Blade later acknowledged was influential in his musical development. Following in the footsteps of his older brother, Brady Blade Jr., Blade developed skills on the drum kit while 'depping' for his brother in the church band. Soon after Blade shifted his focus to the drums throughout middle and high school.
