Epping Forest District
Epping Forest District is a local government district in Essex, England. It is named after the ancient woodland of Epping Forest, a large part of which lies within the district. The district covers northeastern parts of the urban area of London, including the suburban towns of Epping, Loughton, Waltham Abbey, Chigwell, and Buckhurst Hill, as well as rural areas beyond it. The district is situated in the west of the county, bordering north-eastern Greater London. The administrative headquarters of Epping Forest District Council are in the town of Epping. Enfield Lock
Enfield Lock is an area in the London Borough of Enfield, north London. It is approximately located east of the Hertford Road between Turkey Street and the Holmesdale Tunnel overpass, and extends to the River Lee Navigation, including the Enfield Island Village. The locality gains its name from the lock on the River Lee Navigation. Today's Enfield Lock was rebuilt in 1922. The area forms part of the Lee Valley Park and the Enfield Lock Conservation Area. On its eastern boundary Enfield Lock has marshland formerly used as a testing site between the Royal Small Arms Factory and the Gunpowder Mills, beyond this is the village of Sewardstone and the Epping forest boundary. Enfield Island Village
Enfield Island Village is a modern property development in Enfield Lock, in the London Borough of Enfield, north London. Before April 1994, Enfield Island Village formed part of the Epping Forest district of Essex, but it was transferred to the borough of Enfield in Greater London when the housing development was created. History Enfield Island Village was built on land previously occupied by the Royal Small Arms Factory. It is close to the borders of Essex and Hertfordshire, and is adjacent to the River Lee Navigation, River Lea, Cattlegate Flood Relief Channel, and Newmans Weir, as well as open countryside, including Epping Forest. The site was decommissioned by the MOD in 1984 and was sold to British Aerospace (BAe). BAe together with Trafalgar House launched a joint venture company, Lee Valley Developments (LVD). Gordon Hill, London
Gordon Hill is a district of Enfield in the London Borough of Enfield, located to the north-west of Enfield Town. Adjoining areas include Clay Hill, Enfield Chase, Enfield Town, Crews Hill, Forty Hill and World's End. It is served by Gordon Hill railway station in London fare zone 5. Gordon Hill has a number of shops, restaurants and pubs located on Lavender Hill and Lancaster Road. Also located in Gordon Hill is Chase Farm Hospital. History Gordon Hill is developed on the site of the 18th-century mansion Gordon House. Gordon House was built on the Chase near the top of what is now Gordon Hill. It was named after an early occupant, Lord George Gordon (1751–93), instigator of the Gordon Riots. It later belonged to Sir Thomas Hallifax (1721–89), Lord Mayor of London. Enfield Chase
Enfield Chase is an open space in the London Borough of Enfield, North London. Historically, the name applied to a large common occupying the western part of the ancient parish of Enfield, extending from Monken Hadley in the west to Bulls Cross in the east, and from Potters Bar to Southgate. Since 1994 the term 'Enfield Chase' has applied to the ''Enfield Chase Heritage Area of Special Character''; a part of the former common area – largely owned by the London Borough of Enfield – that was never developed for housing and other urban uses. The area was owned by a landlord, for many centuries the Duchy of Lancaster, who held Forest Rights and other rights such as the right to a certain amount of extracted wood. Crews Hill
Crews Hill is an elevated and green-buffered former hamlet grown into a small village-size community on the northern outskirts of London centred north of Charing Cross. It forms part of the London Borough of Enfield and economically has many garden centres and plant nurseries. It is located to the north of Enfield Town and is mainly a residential area which almost borders Crews Hill to the north and forms part of London's Green Belt. Botany Bay, London
Botany Bay is a hamlet (place), hamlet in Enfield, London, Enfield, England, on the outskirts of North London, north London, located within the London Borough of Enfield. It has a population close to 200. The hamlet is centred at the junction of The Ridgeway – the A1005 road that links Enfield to Potters Bar and the M25 motorway – and East Lodge Lane. Enfield Chase lies to the south and west. It is about a mile from the railway station at Crews Hill. Enfield Highway is an area in the London Borough of Enfield, north London. It is roughly located in the area either side of Hertford Road (Enfield Highway) between Hoe Lane and The Ride.
