Douglas Mitchell
Douglas Harding Mitchell, (February 19, 1939 – July 20, 2022) was a Canadian Football player, executive, and commissioner. A graduate of Colorado College and the University of British Columbia (UBC), Mitchell played three games for the BC Lions in 1960. He earned a Bachelor of Laws degree from UBC in 1962. Mitchell later became the commissioner of the CFL, serving from 1984 to 1988. He was inducted into the Alberta Sports Hall of Fame, was named Sportsman of the Year in 2007 by the Calgary Booster Club and in 2010 was listed by the Globe and Mail as one of the Power 50 of Canadian sports. His professional and community-based achievements were recognized with an appointment to the Order of Canada in 2004 and in 2007 he was inducted into the Alberta Order of Excellence. Doug Herbert Mitchell is a former offensive lineman who played eight seasons in the Canadian Football League, winning three Grey Cups. A born in the United Kingdom, Mitchell took to Canadian football and starred with the Western Ontario Mustangs. He began his pro career with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, playing 8 seasons, 98 games and 2 Grey Cup championships. Doug Mitchell (born 1952) is a film producer. Career Mitchell's career as a producer began in the mid 1980s as a member of the Kennedy Miller production house based in Sydney. In the late 1980s he was nominated with George Miller and Terry Hayes on three occasions in the AACTA Award for Best Film category at the Australian Film Institute Awards. Douglas Mitchell (scientist)
Douglas A. Mitchell is a Professor of Chemistry at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He holds an affiliate appointment in the Department of Microbiology and is a faculty member of the Carl R. Woese Institute for Genomic Biology. His research focuses on the chemical biology of natural products. He is known mainly for his work on the biosynthetic enzymology of ribosomally synthesized and post-translationally modified peptides (RiPPs) and genome-guided natural product discovery. Early life and education Mitchell was born in western Pennsylvania and obtained his B.S. in Chemistry from Carnegie Mellon University in 2002. He obtained his PhD in 2006 from the University of California, Berkeley and worked with Michael Marletta on the nitric oxide-dependent post-translational modifications of proteins.
