Doug Mastriano
Douglas Vincent Mastriano (born January 2, 1964) is an American far-right politics#United States, far-right politician and retired military officer who has served in the Pennsylvania Senate since 2019, representing the Pennsylvania Senate, District 33, 33rd district. A member of the Republican Party (United States), Republican Party, he was also the party's nominee in the 2022 Pennsylvania gubernatorial election. Born in New Jersey, Mastriano served in the United States Army from 1986 to 2017 and attained the rank of Colonel (United States), colonel. He ran for U.S. Congress in Pennsylvania's 13th congressional district in 2018, where he finished fourth in the primary. Mastriano won the state senate seat for the 33rd District the following year in a special election. 2022 Pennsylvania Gubernatorial Election
The 2022 Pennsylvania gubernatorial election was held on November 8, 2022, to elect the governor of Pennsylvania, governor and lieutenant governor of Pennsylvania. Democratic Party (United States), Democratic state attorney general Josh Shapiro defeated Republican Party (United States), Republican state senator Doug Mastriano to win his first term in office. Shapiro succeeded Democratic incumbent Tom Wolf, who was term limited. In the primaries on May 17, 2022, Shapiro was unopposed for the Democratic nomination. Joshua David Shapiro (born June 20, 1973) is an American lawyer and politician who has served as the 48th governor of Pennsylvania since 2023. A member of the Democratic Party (United States), Democratic Party, he was the attorney general of Pennsylvania from 2017 to 2023 and was on the Montgomery County Board of Commissioners from 2012 to 2017. The 13th congressional district of Pennsylvania is a congressional district in the U.S. state of Pennsylvania. The district contains all of Adams, Bedford, Blair, Cambria, Franklin, Fulton, Huntingdon, Juniata, Mifflin, and Perry counties. It also includes slivers of Cumberland and Somerset counties. Republican John Joyce has represented the district since 2019. With a Cook Partisan Voting Index rating of R+23, it is the most Republican district in Pennsylvania. Prior to February 2018, the district was located in southeastern Pennsylvania, covering eastern Montgomery County and Northeast Philadelphia. The district traditionally included most of Montgomery County, but was redrawn in 2002 to include part of Philadelphia, and altered again in 2012.
